1 YEAR OLD BLOOD WORK ?
WHY would some dr.'s do this and others not. So many of my friends did not have to do this, while of course others did. We did it on Saturday for DD and I had to leave the room! She was screaming!! CBC is necessary for a one year old?

Well, I know my doc did it mostly to see if he is anemic. Then they know if your child should be on vitamins, etc.

and also I thought they test for Lead?
with all the lead being thrown around in the toys, I think this is important.

My Dr. didn't send us for any bloodwork. And still hasn't and he is 17 months old. He was very sick around his birthday though so maybe that is why.

ugh Im dreading this, I was given the rx to do this last month and havent done it yet, DD has to pee in a cup- thats gonna be fun and get blood work to check for anemia and lead they told me.

DD didnt have to have any blood work done at 12 mth check up - I asjed my Dr and she said the office does it at 2 yrs old.

Thanks ladies, It was awful and I am glad it is DONE !!!
I guess it is best to detect anything early, lead and anemia. It was just hard to do.

they give you a special collection bag for this.. if they haven't, ask for one, it is much easier..

we did it at 10 months (for some other reason, but normally my doctor does it at 1 year. My friends ped does it at 9 months.
They did CBC, lead, iron, etc. No urine analysis though. We primarly had it done for her allergies, she had a RAST test done at the same time.
She cried for a minute and then was fine.
