Probably 5K or more. But, I have to factor in other things like commuting expenses, profit sharing, 401K, etc.

Also, on the flip side, is it worth staying at your current, even if you are offered the same amount of money? Are you happy or miserable, etc.

If my benefits are the same, I'd take a small paycut...I don't make much, but I don't need much where I'm going.

Re: POLL: How much more money would it take for you to take a new job?

$20K- for me-

1- I would have to go back to the city to get any kind of increase

2. I have a good deal- 9- 5pm- 1 hour for lunch, 20 minutes from home

3- I like the people I work with

4. I am not a morning person- I get up at 8am to get to work by 9am- any early would kill me

so it would really have to be some offer- plus I don't pay much for my heath insurance- I cover me and my hubby medical and dental- for less then what I paid for just me at my last job

I've worked it out and the only way (well maybe not the ONLY way but you get the idea) I would make more money doing what I do would be to go work in the city. And for me, commuting to the city is not worth it unless it's 20K or more.

It would have to be between $5-10k. I am only 15 minutes from home and work 8 AM-4:30 PM, so I need some incentive to leave.

Re: POLL: How much more money would it take for you to take a new job?

I've pretty much accepted the fact that when I eventually leave, I'll probably be paid less b/c most firms in CT pay less than NYC firms. However, my commute will be much better (although I won't be able to sleep on a train) and I think CT will be a better environment for me.

I answered b/w 5k and 10k...
ANY raise would be a big help Chat Icon
I would like to make 20k more than I do now..then it would be considered a "decent" salary Chat Icon

ETA: I like my job, I love the ppl I work with and I LOVE my hours (8-4). But I really make crappy money, especially that I work in the city too.

Over 11 for me. I really like my company. I am already commuting so that isn't a factor.

Re: POLL: How much more money would it take for you to take a new job?

I am very lucky to have a great teaching job, so I don't think I will ever leave...

But it would take more than 20,000 for DH to leave his job.

More than 20k would probably entice me to move to another job in NYC. I work in the city now and am paid very well, have great earning potential here, plus amazing benefits that would be hard to find anywhere else. But, if I were to get the same money or higher on LI I would take it.

My DH was just offered a relocation to Cape Cod with almost double the salary and we turned it down. Too bad, I love Cape CodChat Icon

More than 20K, however, I know I could go find that in a public school, but I love my job too much to leave anytime soon.

hmmm depends. right now i'm working great hours...less than 40 hours a week. so if i were offered another 5,000 for a job where i would be working 50-60 hours a week...i wouldnt take it. now, if i was offered 20k-30k...i might change my mind!
