Hurricane Katrina's floodwaters may have damaged 160,000 homes in New Orleans beyond repair, an official with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said today. Also today, President Bush said he takes responsibility for the federal government's failures in responding to Hurricane Katrina. "To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility," Bush said.

I think it shows integrity for him to do this (although I'm sure plenty of people will find fault with this, as well ). What does he care about approval ratings, et al - he's never up for reelection again. This is just about doing the right thing, saying we messed up, we're going to fix it.

I am glad he did take responisibilty....and ultimately the buck had to stop there...
but i think there were other people who are at fault as well....
I think a LOT of things and people fell apart causing such chaos

Now if only New Orleans moronic mayor and Louisiana's crybaby govenor would do the same. Although the FEMA response was certainly less than stellar, I feel that most of the fault lies on their shoulders.

Leaders will always be criticized by someone...it's a job hazzard unfortunately. What is important is that he put himself out there & took responsibility. People will always find fault.

If Im reading this correctly I agree I think its the mayor and governors fault really- especially after Dr.Phil today and hearing the people that survived saying there were school buses that werent used- I heard the red cross asked days before if they can set up and Im not sure either 1 of them ( mayor /governor) said no- so while they were telling people to get out, I dont think they were helping thier city that much either- and then she goes on tv in a helicopter for cnn crying showing all this devastation and blaming bush!
Bush is a stand up guy- I cant imagin how difficult it is to be a president in this day and age with terrorist, tradegys- this poor guy is getting greyer by the minute! Everyone criticizes him but everyone forgets just how HARD his job is too!

Ditto. They weren't prepared and while it may not have been his fault directly, he still had a responsibility to make sure things would be okay.
