I would assume they're either morons who don't understand time or they genuinely don't care if the kid's classmates show up. Maybe they have other friends and family members that can make it. Maybe they ran it passed the parents of the kid's closet friends and they were okay with it. Who knows and honestly, who cares. You either go or you politely decline. I wouldn't give it a second thought.

Let me get this straight - someone that plans a party right after school on a Friday is a "moron who doesn't understand time?" I seem to know a lot of these morons then because I have been invited to a lot of parties right after school on a Friday and if I remember correctly - I think my daughters 5th birthday party was at 4:00 on a Friday - they are dismissed at 3:30! Btw - there were 25+ kids there. So we all must have been morons who don't understand time! Or maybe, the working parents just found a ride for their kid to the party.

That comment was based purely on the fact that the op seemed to be saying if the kids got out and went straight to the party they'd still be late. I have no issue with an after school party, or people doing whatever works for them. I just don't understand that part personally.

She probably doesn't care if they are 5/10 minutes late as most people are a little late arriving at a party.

Exactly, why would you schedule a party for a time where people will be 10 min late?? I don’t like to be late so that would stress me out. I think it’s terrible planning.

All my family lives n NYC so I don’t plan early parties. When I plan a party, I take my guest list into consideration but it seems I’m in the minority.

ETA: also good luck if it’s just 10 min late because N.J. basically shut down today. Everything is a mess today.

I know a few party places will have you tell guests to be there 30 mins prior, that way they can start on time because even the latecomers will be there. Especially places where you might have to sign a consent waiver, change clothes/shoes, etc.

oooh!! this is a good point!! maybe the party doesn't actually start until 4, but she just put 3:30 so that people would be on time. i think you said its a golf place-- so they need to pick out their clubs and golf balls and all that. I know my son just had his party at a trampoline place and they told us to put the time as like 20 minutes earlier so that the kids had time to get their special socks on and all that.

Re: UPDATE IN OP: Birthday Party, Please explain why

For everyone who keeps saying that the family of this child chose a time that worked for them that’s all well and good until no one shows up at the party. So yeah, you do have to take working parents into consideration because if you don’t you will have a whole bunch of kids decline your child’s party.

Exactly what happened. Update in original post.
