Support group for parents of children with autism
Hi all,
I'm looking for a support group that is specific to parents of children with autism in preferably the Nassau county area yet willing to travel if necessary. Thanks in advance for your help! LaurenJ

I’m not in Nassau but I remember seeing some awhile back when I was searching the Autismspeaks site,.

There is SASI but they are in suffolk. I have never attended a meeting because its too far from me but I do know they have monthly support meetings.

SASI does have monthly support meetings but as the above poster stated, they are in suffolk county at Mather Hospital on the last Friday of every month. They also have meetings scheduled in Brentwood which is more west.

Does your Y or JCC have an autism group? The ones near me in NJ have both meetings and weekly respite care for caregivers to have one on one in small group settings, and the parents can work out, or just relax.

Support group for parents of children with autism
Many JCC's have autism programs on the island. Try the Plainview one for the Family Center for Autism, they might have something. Not sure why the Y doesn't have anything for special needs....that bugs me!
