No heartbeat at 8 weeks

At my 8 week visit yesterday, the doctor said there is no heartbeat and I am having a miscarriage. I have no bleeding or cramping yet and the baby was measuring the proper length.

I am so sad this happened. We saw the heart beat just two weeks ago. We were feeling so good that this past weekend we told our entire families and our two DC that we are expecting. Chat Icon

I'm going back today to repeat the sono and confirm, then schedule a D&C. Do you ladies have any advice about what to expect with the procedure? I'm scared of it, and I'm also scared passing the baby before the D&C. I want to have the testing done to find out what, if anything, was wrong. What do they tell you if they are able to do the testing? Can you find out the gender, because I would want to know.

I can't believe I'm here again. I had two chemical pregnancies in 2011. I'm just a mess. Chat Icon

i'm so sorry. I know it doesn't make it hurt any less, but it happens so much more often than you would ever realize. If you do pass the baby before the D&C, and you REALLY want to get tested, you can try to save what passes in a plastic bag - I didn't do that, but I've read situations where women have. It won't be sterile, so I don't know if they will definitely be able to, but if it's what you really want, you can do that. If you do get tested, they'll tell you if there were any chromosomal abnormalities, which at that point in the development it is something like 99% likely that that was the issue. You can find out gender, but I personally would not want to know.

I'm so sorry!!!

I am so sorry! I know how hard it is to be so excited and then to feel that devastation. And it is devastation. My timing for a miscarriage was the same as yours and we had seen the HB too before we went back 2 weeks later at 8.5 weeks and it was gone.
I had a D&C -- the day before I thought for sure I was going to pass it naturally and I was terrified, but my body held onto it for a bit more and while the D&C was extremely emotional for me, there was no real physical pain, which was good. I had the testing done...no chromosmal abnormalities and they can confirm gender (they told me...I was pretty sure I wanted to know, but they told me without me even asking if I wanted to know). The testing takes a few weeks too, so be prepared to wait for answers.

I am so sorry for you. Hang onto the love and support from your family, they will help you to get through this. Lots of hugs!!

Thank you so much.

Well, no heartbeat was confirmed yesterday at the repeat sonogram. I am scheduled for the D&C tomorrow morning at the hospital. I am not afraid of the physical procedure or pain tomorrow, but I am so scared that I am going to lose it emotionally. Chat Icon Chat Icon

im so sorry!!! I found out at 8w in Dec there was no heartbeat... You wont feel any pain from the D&C you'll have minor cramping after but they will give you something for that. Emotionally theres really nothing you can do do prepare just let it out, you'll feel better for it.

Yes you can find out the gender make sure you let them know you want to.

I am sorry for your loss. Last week at 12 weeks I found out my baby stopped growing and had no heartbeat at 10 weeks. I had the D&C last Friday. The D&C went fine but I had issues after and had to take Citotec. That doesn't happen with everyone. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about anything.

My D&C went well I think. It is very emotional, but I think I'm ok. I'm looking forward to healing and getting the genetic testing results to see if they can identify a cause. I'm hoping for some closure.
