OptimumVoice vs. Vontage
Does anyone use one of these? Vontage is cheaper than the two and sounds like it offers the same features. I would love to hear what you think about it.
Are there any others I'm not aware of?
Thanks.

Re: OptimumVoice vs. Vontage
I've heard good things about both and DH and I have had good experience with AT&T. Vonage got top ratings overall and AT&T got top ratings for quality of the signal. DH read an article.

optimum voice is actually cheaper, because if you have an io package, optimum online and add optimum voice, you will get a $20 a month credit on you bill for as long as you keep all 3, so its like your getting optimum voice for 14.95. also vonage charges a start up fee of i believe $69 and they also charge for 411 wich optimum voice does not. Also vonage does not have E911, so when you call it does not go directly to you local 911 office and does not come up with your name & # you have to tell them where you are. ov has e911 so when you call even if you cant speak they will know where you are and your number.

I have to double check the rates now. I was told vontage is $24.99 a month for unlimited national calls. Optimimum voice is $39.99 or 34.99, I forget. Since I already have a cable modem I can't get the special for all 3 that they offer. I may overlook the E911 and 411 if everything else is the same. My only concern with them is in case of a blackout. Then we don't have any phone service at all - but that would be the case with either one. Do you know if the lines ever get overloaded and you can't make calls at busy hours? Someone asked me about that and I was curious.
Thanks so much for your advice.

Did you have ever a problem with lines being too busy for you to put a call through? Thanks.

it hasnt been 39.99 in almost a year, i sell it. its 34.95 but if you have an io package, ool & add ov you will get optimum rewards wich gives you a $20 a month credit on your account as long as you keep the 3. as far as the black outs go just get a battery back up

Thanks so much. I like the battery back up. I really won't be getting the io package. I had it for a while and wasn't home long enough to watch. I really have my TV on HGTV and Food network all the time. I need to find out about the $24.99 for Vontage and decide between the two. I guess it's not as popular but my friend has it and recommends it highly. I don't know if they offer a battery back-up. I have to find out.
Thanks again.

Re: OptimumVoice vs. Vontage
we got vonage and LOVE it. It is $24.99 a month (27 and change with tax) per month-deducted automatically from your account. Quality is great and I get UNLIMITED local and LONG DISTANCE calls (so I can sit on the phoe to NY for hours if I wanted)
The only negative is (with any of these voice over IP things) is that if your cable goes out, your phone goes out. The good thing is there is a "virtual" voicemail and they notify me by e-mail that I have a voicemal (that's only if the regular phone machine doesn't get it because I don't answer the call waiting or the cable is out)
