Adoption Alliance

Hi ladies! I have been getting a lot of forum mail regarding the agency we are working with. I figured I would just create a post to answer some questions.
I have been working with them since April 2010. It took a while for us to get our paper work, home study, physicals, finger prints and referrals finished. Once we did and created a birth parent portfolio, we were approved to be "parents in waiting." We were matched with a birth mom in July, but due to some unfortunate circumstances-with the birth mom, we had to back out. We have been matched again and hopefully this one will work out.
The journey has been long and stressful at times, but this agency has always been available and very helpful. They always return my phone calls and emails promptly. I only have wonderful things to say about them.
The main reason we chose this agency was they are located in Texas. Texas is a 48 hour state which means the birth mom only has 48 hours to change her mind. Other states are much longer and I would be fearful of the birth mom changing her mind Chat Icon
Please feel free to ask me any questions. I had someone help us through this process and I would be glad to help.

Re: Adoption Alliance

Isn't the finalization longer anyway?

Also isn't it the state where you finalize that determines the rescind period?

We do need to return to Texas 6 months later to finalize, but I believe it is just a formality. We can sign the papers in NY, but it costs more money.

so after 48 hours the birth mom or father has no rights? That's it?

In NY with an agency it's 72 hours but then they have 30 days to change their minds but have to go to court.

I thought that where you finalize or where you reside determines that time period.

It varies from State to State. Some States are more pro birth parents, some are more adoptive parents.

TX is good for adoptive parents and so is Utah.

I believe it's determine where the BIRTH mother is and the adoption is done. Not where the adoptive parents come from.

But you might have to stay for 7-10 days after birth because of interstate adoption paperwork.

Yes, we do need to stay in Texas for about a week for the paperwork to go through.

Re: Adoption Alliance

The consent period in TX seems to be 10 days.

I guess my question about using a TX based agency is do they only look for birth mothers who live in TX?

Yes and no but most birth mothers will look in their own State usually.

A private adoption/lawyer will most likely advertise Country wide.

But some birth mothers may want to go for a much bigger agency that may not be in their State.

Re: Adoption Alliance

if a birth mother sees an ad and it's out of state do you think that it impacts their decision?

The first birthmother that we were matched with was from another state, not Texas. We were trying to get her to move back to Texas (she used to live there). We paid for her travel expense--but she never moved. That is the reason we decided not to stay with her. Our current birthmom lives in the same town as the agency. She goes there weekly and I like that.

To answer your question...I guess it all depends on the birthmom's circumstances. You never know

that's one of the suckiest parts of adoption. You can end up paying for expenses and never have the adoption completed. Sorry that happened. So you paid the travel expense but not the moving expense?

Yes we sent money for her to travel. She really didn't have anything to move because she is very poor. Once she got to Texas, the agency was going to put her in one of their "hotels." We would pay a small fee for her to stay there. Well, she never went to Texas so we lost money.

With our current birth mom, she lives in Texas-very close to the agency so we don't have that problem.

We are getting more excited-she is due in less than 2 months. Hoping all goes well!!!!!!!!
