Can we talk pigeon toed children?

Has anyone had their child as a toddler be pigeon toed and have it correct itself as they got older?
My doctor swears to me that Ava's pigeon toed legs will correct themselves and that it's not even a cause for concern if they don't correct themselves. I believe him, but my mother is driving me INSANE over this, practically telling me that I'm committing some form of child abuse by not getting her physical therapy, etc. From everything I've read, there's not much you can do but wait and see and even then, unless the child is tripping over themselves, they do nothing.
So, does anyone have any experience with this so I can stop feeling like a neglectful mother?Chat Icon

I have no experience with my child but my brother was pigeon-toed when he was younger. Nothing was done about it and it did correct itself. I can't remember how long it took, I think it just happened gradually.

DS walks slightly turned in and on his toes - I've mentioned it to his pediatrician on several occassions - he insists it's developmental and he will grow out of it. DS is 5 1/2 & the Dr told us this about 1 month ago.

Jordan was pigeon toed. We saw an ortho when she started walking and again at 2 or so. They said she had a rotation on her right side at the knee and at the hip and just a slight rotation at her left knee. They SWORE to me that by the age of 8 it would correct itself. They said that studies show that kids that wear braces and those that don't, end up in the same place by the age of 8-10. They told me that as the bones grow they untwist on their own. Well She is now 9 and they were right. It is almost totally gone.

BTW: She was so bad that she used to fall all the time. She could not run without falling when she started walking until she was around 4 or so.

Thank you so much for responding, everyone. You've all confirmed everything I've been told and my mom's just going to have to get over herself. I've had it with her trying to make me feel like I'm neglecting my daughter. She can bite me nowChat Icon

I was pigeon toed as a kid - totally a genetic thing as more than half of my cousins on my dad's side had the same thing. My mom sent me to dancing school which served as a form of physical therapy...

A podiatrist told me it was HIGHLY over-diagnosed when I was a kid (and that's probably where your mom is coming from).
