Am I being petty? (long)

Okay so I work in a large office, but I am in a department of only 6. One of the girls in my department celebrated her birthday on 5/13. Another woman in the unit bought her a card and a bouquet of flowers, and I was designated to pick up a box of chocolates (whitman dark chocolate sampler), and some body lotion, and a gift bag. All in all I spent about $15. My other cowarker spent about $10 on the flowers and card. It should have worked out to about $5 each for this girls birthday, just a little something. Well, the day of her birthday, another woman from the department gave her $5 to the woman who bought the flowers, so the other two should have given thier money to me-EXCEPT THE NEVER DID-THEY STILL HAVEN'T. And I can't bring myself to ask for it, it seems so silly. I was about to let it go. Except my birthday was yesterday......and they haven't given me anything. Maybe they'll do it later-but I don't think so. I am really hurt, and kind of pissed.....am I wrong?

Don't be pissed, yet. It's still early in the morning for birthday gifts. Wait till lunch Chat Icon

With regard to the money, if you don't feel comfortable correcting it now, wait until the next person's bday comes up and let the others know that you put in A LOT last time around.

That's a good idea....the money thing is just eating at me....and it's sooo stupid, it's only $10 bucks...but it's the principle of the thing....

it's the small things that get me in the end

I would let the money thing go in the end just to keep peace, but if they dont give you anything for your B-day ( happy birthday by the way) then yes, I think you have every reason to be annoyed, since you did it for her.

believe me, I know how you feel. I was constantly shelling out cash everytime it was a birthday, a wedding, a baby, someone's leaving, etc. etc.

It adds UP!!! So, when my "events" were ignored, I scaled down my contributions BIG TIME.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

It is still to early in the morning IMO. Is it one person who keep strack of everyones birthday? and is it the same person who collects the money each time? they should keep it at a constant person/amount and stuff. Maybe (just a suggestion) make like a petty cash thing from everyone with a list of who gives instead of collecting each time this way the money is already collected.

first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it woudl be very rude if these people did not do anythgin for your birthday, especially wehn you contributed to someone else's so recently. It is still early - I know in my office we do b-day celebrations closer to the end of the day - so don't worry about htem not doing anythign for you yet. As far as the money goes, maybe wait until tomorrow and if nothing was done for your bday, or they haven't offered their share yet - than I would have no problem reminding them. True, it's not a lot of money, but it was yours, and they should pay their fair share.

It's still early, I agree. I would even give them until tomorrow because your B-day fell on a Sunday.

I don't think I would say anything about the money until the next time people asked you to contribute. At that point I would say something and not contribute.

Happy Birthday btw!
