Average time to do a feeding

How long does it take everyone to do a feeding for their infant.

DD is 2.5 months old and it take a full hour from start to finish- sometimes more and rarely less.

How many ounces are they taking and how often are you burping them?

TIA!

Re: Average time to do a feeding

Every child is different....

My DS was on 8oz bottles at that age. It never took him more than 5 minutes to down a bottle...

I dont remember specifically with my older girls b/c it was so long ago. But I recall 20 minutes b/c I would hold one and prop the other and switch at 10 minutes...which was 1/2 way through. They would have been on 6 oz bottles..

Wow, really? What nipple was he using?

DS is using stage 2 nipples, and doing 6 oz. it usually takes him 10-15 minutes with a stop to burp mid-way through.

Before we switched to level 2 nipples, it was painfully slow and he'd often fall asleep.

DD is 7 weeks old, has 5.5oz, and takes about 45mins to finish the bottle....is that too long? Should I try level 2 nipples?

She does sometimes get kind of sleepy...but she also cries during this time, sometimes she is "straining" like she is constipated and then starts to cry....is this normal?

We tried the level 2 nipples about 3 weeks ago and ishe spit up so I stopped, but I am thinking we need to try again now. she is falling asleep on every feeding AND it is taking soooo long!

DS takes about an hour for his feeding. He eats about 5 oz and burps midway through the bottle. He is on level 1.

Sounds like my DS. Takes about 20 mins to have 4 to 6 oz. I usually have about 6 1/2 oz in the bottle

He was always a good eater.

He was on Platex Fast Flow Nipples from the get go...he sucked so hard on the slow flow nipples that he gave himself a blister!!!!

He came home from the hospital at 7lbs 2oz and at his 2 month appointment he was 14lbs 7oz!Chat Icon

DD is 3 and a half weeks old. She takes about 20 mins (w/ burping) for 4oz (slow playtex nipple).

Re: Average time to do a feeding

DD is almost 4 weeks and is breastfed so I don't know how much she's getting but she usually takes between 20-30 mins total to finish. I don't burp her until she's done and she usually doesn't ever burp.

I did pump yesterday and gave her a bottle of 3 oz. of breast milk and she finished it in about 15 mins. It was the playtex drop-in bottle with the slow flow nipple.

DD has always taken around 15 minutes or less to finish a bottle. An hour sounds super long to me. You may want to try changing to the next level nipple. At that age we were burping 2-3 times per bottle because of reflux issues.
