wedding gift etiquette....

we have a wedding in a month where they didn't spend alot on the gift they gave us....

what do I do? I'm not sure of the value, I just know it wasn't alot.

I have an idea of what I want to give...do I have to spend the same amount as they did (they gave what they could afford)

ALSO: DH is best man in a wedding where I am not attending and we aren't true friends (the groom is his old assistant manager from NY). What kind of gift do we give them??Chat Icon

I'd just give waht you can afford, regardless of what they gave you. You never know where these peopel were at financially around the time of your wedding.

I'd buy them a gift. if you're not looking to spend a lot, bc of them.....thats fine, spend more since dh is the best man, but get a gift that looks like you spent a lot then... Chat Icon

Re: wedding gift etiquette....

I usually give what I can afford, not what people gave me. We are all at different stages of our life, and when we were getting married most of our friends were single, so they had a lot more money to play with than we do right now with the house and Sarah and another baby on the way.

With the one where your DH has to come up to NY, I usually give a smaller gift if I have to travel, since I'm also paying for airfare and hotel.

For the NY best man wedding I'll do a gift also
