2 Police Officers Stabbed

So upsetting that this could have been avoided. The suspect had been in jail for 2 years for assaulting a police officer already.

Multiple complaints and the housing company does NOTHING for their clients and community anymore.

It is just disgusting and sad for these innocent officers and others who have been harassed by that man.

The single condo in question is apparently owned by a company called Concern Housing

How exactly could this have been avoided? People commit crimes, they are sentenced to jail, they serve their time and they are released. Should we lock people up and throw away the key regardless of the offense committed??? Perhaps the man was mentally ill. Should we lock up the mentally ill and throw away the key? Maybe, the failure here is not on the housing but on the lack of health care??

All that said, what I really take issue with is your middle sentence placing the blame for this on the housing company.

FIRST - you have NO idea what Concern did or didn't do in this particular case.

SECOND - the fact that you have said the housing company does NOTHING for their clients or community demonstrates that my first comment is true. Do you even know anything about Concern? Concern is a non-profit agency committed to helping individuals and families to live in the community with dignity. They provide housing for veterans, the homeless and others in need. Again, you have NO idea (and neither do I) what they did or didn't do in this particular case.

THIRD - the story you linked below doesn't say anything about this being a long standing issue vs an isolated event, so your remark about "multiple complaints" based on the article you linked to is nonsense. (don't bother responding to link to other articles - my comment specifically says your current link doesn't back up your claim)

FOURTH - since the "house" in question is a condo, it's not clear that Concern owns the entire property vs. just this one unit. Which means the homeowners association that was receiving the alleged multiple complaints may have been different than the actual owner of this one unit.

FIFTH - since this was Medford, I can say, the landlord tenant court that covers that geographic area is still digging its way out of the eviction moratorium brought on by Covid. There are more than 200 eviction cases on the calendar every week, and landlords trying to start proceedings are being given court dates 3 or 4 months down the road. Trials for existing cases are being schedule for 2-3 months down the road.

It's OK to be upset and angry that 3 police officers were stabbed. I think it's fair to say that everyone who knows about the incident is upset and angry that 3 police officers were stabbed. But, to lash out with accusations about failure of others is unproductive, and ill-advised.

AND THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT IN ANY WAY DOWNPLAY THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE INCIDENT - but, line of duty injuries are part of a police officer's life, and anyone who has been part of a police officer's life knows that responding to a domestic incident carries the greatest risk of injury.

According to this article multiple complaints have also been made to the police and yet this still happened. Guess the police should also be to blame.

Do you work for Concern as it seems you are siding with them? I have lived next to a home owned by them for 15 years. I am VERY aware of how the company is run and how it is has gone downhill and don’t keep their clients safe.

This was avoidable and I can assure you that the roommate complained about this individual as the rest of the complex did.

These type of people should not be in their housing and honestly from what I am familiar with, I don’t care where they go and this will happen again as they have very unstable people in their homes.

She seems to have no clue and sounds like she might work for Concern or familiar with them and hides her head about them like they do.

Seriously??? Do you watch the news? No one seems to be serving time anymore. NYC is has become such a $hitshow, and so are other states with crime, especially theft.

Exactly and I live next to someone who has stolen from their roommates and the housing agency won’t do anything about it. Almost 2 years and the girl has gotten away with murder (possibly a dog but of course since they can’t prove it so she got away with that too).

No, I don't work for Concern.

How was this avoidable?

What "type of people" are you referring to?

If you don't care where they go, what's wrong with where they are?

Yes, seriously. The OP said this individual had committed a crime and served time in prison for it. That is who we are talking about - this one guy who stabbed the police officers, here on Long Island. Not NYC - not someone who was arrested, and then release pending trial and then committed another crime. Same question still applies - Should we lock people up and throw away the key regardless of the offense committed???

Avoidable by not having people live together that don’t get along and doing background checks on clients.

Violent people, criminals, people who have serious issues.

I have explained before, IME there needs to be background checks and trial periods before just letting someone live with other people. I know a house that has 3 people and 2 of them have to stay in their room when they other one is home as she is a bully and steals mail and anything she can get her hands on. The agency is doing nothing to protect these women.

I clicked this thinking this was in reference to the 2 NYPD officers stabbed in Times Square on New Years Eve. I didn't even hear about this incident.

Seems as if Concern is a nonprofit housing company with many housing sites
https://www.concernhousing.org/about-us/past-projects/

Great that they also provide housing to vets, but if you read glassdoor you get some pretty interesting info on working for Concern:
https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Concern-Housing-Reviews-E983018.htm

sounds like a pretty toxic work environment and understaffed (like everywhere) which always leads to lack of services and supervision. It sounds like they offer supportive services for their residents, but in my experience those services are usually just on paper, and incidents are inevitable and probably not avoidable. Awful time to be a police officer in this country.

THANK.YOU.

I have been fighting for this house for years now and now they have this incident happen, they NEED to be investigated. I will keep fighting as I don't want this criminal or any other living next door to me as pushing away others in the house will NOT end what this woman does to others.

Re: 2 Police Officers Stabbed

With regards to the comment about being short staffed, the mental health field does not pay well.

People with a masters degree in social work are making not much over minimum wage....

Given that its a non for profit that houses mentally ill people I'm not sure you can do much about who lives next door to you. The fact is they need this housing or would be homeless.

The person who gives the grants can determine if they can still function so yes, the neighbors could fight this.
You would not fight about a dangerous criminal living next to you when you could?
They have kicked people out for lesser things.
