I pay for everything on a cc so I rarely have cash. I used to pay a babysitter in cash but we don't use sitters anymore so my only cash expense is our housekeepers that come every other week and I take money from my husband for that. I will take cash if I get a mani pedi or my hair done and I need to tip in cash. Other than that it's credit card or venmo!

We do actually have tons of cash now though because my son caddies on weekends and it's tips only, so he gives us the cash and we transfer the funds to his bank account and then he uses apple pay. He keeps a little cash on him.

I am so old school and honestly would rather deal with cash. We use our debit cards and credit cards but you spend less when you see the cash in your hands, IME.
We have a very tight budget so there is only so much to go around.

I feel like in the next 10-20 years we will do away with cash and it will all be electronic.

I felt like we were heading towards a cashless society until those stupid fees for using credit cards came along.

I used to be fairly cashless, all card but now with those stupid extra fees you get charged if you use your card at small businesses - I feel more people are moving back towards cash for certain things.

Many places don't take cards either and they do charge you extra to get your hair done, etc.

Around me there is one pizza place that doesn't take cards and it's super annoying. Although they take cards for the restaurant side and if I am in a jam they will let me pay with a card since they know me very well. Hair/Nails all the places take cards for payment but cash tip. I hardly ever get my nails done because I am lazy. Hair, there is an ATM at the salon so worst case I can take cash out there.

Most places by me take cards but most of the small businesses charge the 3.99% state fee extra if you pay with card instead of cash - so it's cheaper for large expenses to use cash now. My hair place, I pay in cash or check - they accept credit cards but they feel bad having their clients pay the fee so they dissuade you from using it.

Re: Spending Money/Pocket Money/Whatever you call it lol

So ironically I felt like going to get something for lunch today instead of scrounging from the fridge and wasn't sure if the bagel place I wanted to go to had a minimum on credit cards so I wanted to grab some cash.
DH was at the gym so his wallet with my cash supply wasn't here Chat Icon and I had a grand total of 4 bucks in my wallet (which is honestly more than I thought i had-i think i found it in an old coat's pocket the other day lol)

So I ended up raiding my DD's stash. She has a stash of cash from when my dad or her uncle give her a 10 or 20 when they see her. I feel horrible touching it- even though I of course planned to replace it as soon as DH got home. But turns out the bagel place took cards so I just debited my lunch and returned her money to her stash and she's none the wiser!

But sad that my 12 year old has more emergency cash on her than I do!

So what I surmise from the comments is that most people on here don’t have a budget.
Maybe once our kids go out on their own we can be less tight with our finances but at this point I feel like we are poor compared to everyone else.

I don’t carry cash. DH hates that I don’t so I randomly find $40 in my wallet here and there.

We don’t really have a budget and we spend way more than we probably should. We are trying to get a handle on where all of our money goes.

We have a budget. I just break out the money. I have different accounts for different things. I leave whatever our weekly money allowance is in the checking and the rest goes into savings. If we run out of the money in the checking then we are done (obviously if it was something important we'd pull from savings).

Ok we do the same. Keep amount in checking and usually just leave $20 in there and take the rest in cash. The rest will go into other accounts to pay bills or save for something.

Do you mean just for fun expenses? I need to start tracking, I’m so bad with that. Generally I do cash not cc.

We use our credit card for everything and just pay off when it’s due. I have no idea who spends what as long as both of us are under a certain amount it’s fine. The only cash we use is to pay the cleaner each week, comes out of the safe. That gets replenished every few months.

Yes. Not just cash in your pocket but if you budget a certain amount per week just for yourself to do whatever you want, minus bills and savings, etc.

I can only suggest changing jobs. The last 2 years people have been shifting around and making more money. Kids only get more expensive as they get older, and where are they going to go? It’s too expensive out here Chat Icon

Honestly I made more money at my last job and was miserable and had a pit in my stomach everyday coming in. I might make less (actually back up to where I left) but I am much calmer and happier.
I always think about people who switch jobs all the time to make more money if they are the ones always complaining about their jobs.
