Planning a party right now and while we have parties every year, need to go a little more inexpensive this time.
I usually over buy and spend more than needed (mainly because people don't let me know until the last minute they are coming or not and I am always afraid not to have enough food or drinks).

Everyone brings something too so that helps out.

Any good suggestions to not buy everything I see and keep a lower budget this time? Chat Icon

What kind of party? For kids? For all ages? Special occasion?

I would say the best way to bring down cost is to encourage everyone to BYOB =)
BUt do you mean in terms of menu ideas? Are you catering or cooking?
Outdoor BBQ type with lots of people or smaller sit down dinner gathering?

Football, mostly adults. Few kids.

Most do bring their own drinks. I do usually provide the soda, water, some alcohol.

Mostly finger foods and appetizers.

Think of Superbowl but regular football game.

I feel like the best bang for your buck is making a tray of baked ziti and ordering some wings or making chicken fingers. You can easily make garlic knots yourself on the cheap using the pilsbury crecent roll type things Box brownie mix makes for a great , fan favorite and very inexpensive dessert!

Re: Inexpensive Party Ideas

Do you want to make it yourself? Or order in?

Edit: Make a tray of baked ziti, a mixed salad or grilled veggies, and go to Lidl or Aldi and get their antipasti selections and mix in some prosciutto and salami and make your own board. Perhaps add in a tray of chicken wings or just make your own in the oven. Making baked wings is seriously easy with baking powder and flour.

Dessert: I like Bon Appetit’s ricotta raspberry cake. So easy! https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/raspberry-ricotta-cake

I agree with this. Make something easy and have chips and pretzels to munch on.

Thanks. I have done baked ziti and brownies in the past and yes, those are cheap and favorites so I might make those a go to this time too.

I usually make things myself as it is cheaper, except I have found the heros at BJ's are so cheap and easy.

Thanks, that sounds really yummy :)

Yeah I was thinking lots of chips as they are inexpensive and others are bringing more warm finger foods so I might have to do less of those.

If it's a football party, I'd make it a potluck. Have everyone bring a dish and the beverage of their choice!

Everyone brings something and I usually fill in and provide most of the alcohol, especially for shots.

You can get great deals on chips at Aldi Way cheaper than the supermarket and they are very good too

Ahh yeah I always forget about them. I usually go to BJ’s and get the big bags. I should compare prices.

Make a big batch of pulled chicken or pork and set up a nacho bar with the option for sandwiches or tacos too. Side of beans and coleslaw and it can take care of apps and dinner.

Thanks everyone. So far we have 20 people coming with 20 who have not responded. Don’t you just love the people who get invited, tagged a few times and STILL ignore you? SMH.
I will only plan for the ones who said they are coming and not go crazy and if we run out, oh well, the sober ones can go to the store then lol.

Pot luck party. Assign someone a type of dish. (main, side, dessert). Make it a contest to add some fun to it. Tell them their dish will be judged and each category gets a prize.

Taco bar is always a hit. I’ll usually do chips with an assortment of salsa, guacamole and queso as the app to tie into the theme. And coronas and maybe a pitcher of sangria because it sticks to the theme and limits how much alcohol you need to buy.
