Three people who died at Sandals Bahamas
"Officials are conducting autopsies to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the deaths of three Americans at a Sandals resort on the Bahamas' Great Exuma island Friday, according to the Bahamian police commissioner.
The pathologist "consented to doing the autopsies" Monday, Bahamas Police Commissioner Paul Rolle said, and further information would be provided when available. The autopsy exams could help answer questions about how the three Americans -- two from Tennessee and one from Florida -- died over the course of one evening. A fourth American, the wife of the Floridian who died, was airlifted to the nation's capital of Nassau for further treatment before being transferred stateside. No signs of trauma were found on the bodies, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a statement to CNN, and the circumstances remain under police investigation."
The two couples didn't know each other and ate at different restaurants the night before. Bizarre story. Be interesting to see the cause of death.

Hopefully the one in the hospital will be able to talk.
I say either Carbon Monoxide, alcohol poisoning like in the Dominican or tainted drugs.

Three people who died at Sandals Bahamas
"Police found in the first villa a "Caucasian male lying on the ground unresponsive" with no signs of trauma. A doctor pronounced him dead, police said. The woman who was hospitalized was found with him, Rolle said Saturday. At the second villa, they found a man "slumped against a wall in a bathroom unresponsive," and the woman was "found in a bedroom on a bed," the police statement said. "Both showed signs of convulsion," the release said, and neither showed signs of trauma."
"The night prior, all of them had reported feeling ill," Rolle said, and "were seen by the medics." They were treated at different times and had eaten prior at different locations, he said."
The surviving womans son said "Their son, Austin Chiarella, told ABC News his mother "woke up and my dad was laying there on the floor, and she couldn't move. Her legs and arms was swollen and she couldn't move and she screamed to get someone to come in the door."

Re: Three people who died at Sandals Bahamas
I had immediately thought carbon monoxide, since both parties were in the same building. So sad.
I watched a Dateline story a few years about about all these people who kept staying in this one room in a hotel and they all kept dying. Turns out the pool heater was emitting carbon monoxide into the room. And detectors aren't required, just smoke detectors.

How disturbing is it that carbon monoxide detectors aren't required in this day and age? that's actually beyond scary

I know! We travel quite a bit, and I think I'm going to just bring a plug in one from now on.

Three people who died at Sandals Bahamas
The fact that they were convulsing, swollen and sick though makes me think it's some sort of poisoning...

They need to check the liquor bottles in the hotel rooms. And the criminal minds person in me came up with the theory that they ate blowfish and it killed them all!

That's what I was kind of thinking as well because I'm not sure Carbon Monoxide kills that way? I'm so curious to see the results of the autopsy when they are done.

I don't think it does.
I've seen some reports of strong insecticide smells...

Three people who died at Sandals Bahamas
I think it was from the AC. They were working on it. Refrigerant poisoning/Freon.

I head this as well. So sad. My brother and sister in law were at the same resort last summer.

It's honestly terrifying because it can happen to anyone/anywhere. Disturbing.

How Carbon Monoxide detectors are not required by law just like smoke detectors is beyond me. Ridiculous.

I agree - and this is a pretty upscale resort, part of a large chain of resorts, that should all have CO2 monitors.

Re: Three people who died at Sandals Bahamas
I read some of the recent reviews and lots of people were complaining of no AC, rundown resort, not a lot of staff.

Three people who died at Sandals Bahamas
How sad that this could have been easily prevented. The detectors should be mandated in all hotels and airbnb's.
