New CDC Mask Guidance!

MOre than 70% of Americans live in areas with low or medium COVD-19 Community levels and can remove masks!!!

I wonder how this will impact Kathy's post-break decision? Most NY DOH guidance references CDC guidelines... so it makes no sense for children to remain masked.

Re: New CDC Mask Guidance!

Didn't she tell us we could take the masks off a few weeks ago? Except in schools?
So what does this change? Schools?

Yes - this guidance applies to schools as well (that's what I was referencing - since she's s upposed to make a decision on that after break).

It doesn't reference vaccination rates at all which I found interesting.

I googled the map and all of Long Island is in the green. I am hoping she makes an announcement in the coming days…..there is no reason for this anymore and being that it is all green she doesn’t have a leg to stand on …. I hope!!

New CDC Mask Guidance!

She must be crying in her cheerios today. There is absolutely no reason to keep masks on the kids now and she is losing her control. If she does not come out tomorrow and change the masking mandate then we will all know finally for a fact it is political.

Because the vaccination rate doesn't mean shit.
Everyone I know who is vaccinated had covid recently and passed it to their vaccinated family members.
The gig is up with that

From the governors website:

"We are evaluating the CDC's new guidance, and we will update New Yorkers on potential changes as we work through the details and coordinate with all stakeholders in our school communities across our state.

"I want to thank the 75 percent of all New Yorkers who have stepped up to get fully vaccinated. I know these past two years have been difficult, but because New Yorkers are doing the right thing to keep each other safe, our state this week had the highest share among large states of fully vaccinated individuals. New York also leads large states in fully vaccinated 12-17 year-olds, and second among large states in fully vaccinated 5-11 year-olds."

I am hoping this all gets straightened out in the coming weeks.

I agree. I just thought they would add in something related to vaccines though since they seem to be the be all end all.

Maybe they are finally coming to realize the shortfalls of the vaccine too and that using vaccine rates as a bench mark for anything is silly

Vaccines are tied to hospitalization rates so including a specific line for vaccines would be a redundancy.

Re: New CDC Mask Guidance!

So how far “after break” is she going to evaluate this? I thought she was going to require tests first. Looks like at this rate we will be wearing these stinky disease transmitters through March….

Like everything, i will believe it when i see it. Not gonna get my hopes up for nothing. I pray that i can get rid of the masks for my kid and make it optional for all the ones who are still frightened. But i don't trust it, that glimmer of hope can be squashed in an instant with some new cr@p they come up with.

Same. My hope has been completely squashed two years into this nonsense.
I have seen how our leaders truly are and it's disheartening.
All i can do is refuse to wear a mask anywhere anymore, tell my daughter to skirt it as much as possible in school (she says she wears hers under her nose all day and nobody says anything) and look forward to leaving this state in the coming years .

I agree. Especially since she isn’t happy with the vaccination numbers for kids 5-11 (even though we are 2nd in the country).

ETA we meaning NYS lol. My 5-11 year old isn’t vaccinated.

Ridiculous as there are no super spreaders as you can see from big events. Last night Metallica played in Vegas for 50,000 people unmasked but my friend has to still wear a mask to sell furniture to people. The decisions being made are ridiculous.

Still unvaccinated here and hoping the one reason I have to get it is lifted soon.

California is first, Texas is second, NY is third it seems based on the info I found. There has been a steep decline of vaccinations since Thanksgiving in this age group which makes sense as so many people had Covid…

Texas is second for the 5 to 11 group? Before than NY? I’m surprise to hear that.

I can’t find the metrics that match what she references. Texas was second in # but low in percentage of total in that age group.

The cdc has lost credibility with many people. Now they are saying no masks are ok in schools due to the low risk to children and if someone is wearing a high quality mask that they are protected even if others are not wearing masks. This is common sense that people can figure out. The masks could have been ditched since the beginning of the school year.

Yes - especially since other than during the omicron surge - the only place most kids I know wear masks is at school.

I was reading Hochuls transcript from today and we are #2 to Illinois in the large state category - but are a close second…
