See, I've been sleeping like utter shit lately and I chalk it up to no longer having a routine since i work from home now....but now I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with hormones...

I still get hot flashes, but not as bad a before. My anxiety has also calmed down quite a bit, but it's still there. So, no. The symptoms don't go away, but they definitely lessen. At least for me they did.

I was speaking with my mom yesterday and she mentioned that perimenopause was pretty miserable but once her periods stopped completely and she was in menopause all of the horrible symptoms stopped. So I am hoping there is a light at the end of the tunnel. lol
I was reading up on perimenopause yesterday and it was mentioned that it could last as little as a few months but on average, it lasts more like 4'ish years!! 
Ugh, this will suck! LOL

If my hormones take good sleep from me I am going to be REAL pi$$ed off!! LOL
It's not enough that women have to go through pregnancy and childbirth, we also have the added "joy" or our hormones fluctuating and depleting and our bodies being thrust into utter chaos.
Seriously, men have it SO easy!!! I am jealous.

I think started around 40. I had a barely existent period for about 2 years due to losing about 40 pounds in a short amount of time from extreme stress, not eating, and medication. After that nightmare ended about it sort of got back to normal, but the days are all out of whack.
Now 5 years later, sometimes I’ll get two periods in a month or it will be 50 days in between. I don’t get hot flashes. My mother never did and my sister doesn't either. A lot of it has to do with what your mother experienced.

Yes to this!! My gyno mentioned (and I've read) to look to your mom, generally your experiences will closely mimic hers.

I cannot take the birth control pill or any hormones due to having two brain tumors discovered last year, likely caused by hormone shifts due to perimenopause. One was removed in a life saving surgery, but it can grow back, and the other we are monitoring.
What has helped a lot: cutting sugar, alcohol, taking walks, drinking lots of water.
Is it bad that I am now glad I have two sons instead of daughters so I know they won't go through this?!

Wow! It can lead to brain tumors? That is so crazy! I am sorry to hear that you had to deal with that, it must've been so scary. 
Thanks so much for sharing your experience, I appreciate hearing what others are going through with this. I feel like my body feels foreign to me this last year, it's unnerving.

that is horrible, my BCP's gave me HBP and I had to get off of them. I would have been on them forever if I could.

My mom had the same issue, she had NO idea what to expect or when because her mom had a total hysterectomy at a young age. It seems as though my aunts (mom's 3 sisters) all started in their 40's although one of my aunts went into full menopause at 42!!

Wow! It can lead to brain tumors? That is so crazy! I am sorry to hear that you had to deal with that, it must've been so scary.

The tumors I have are called meningiomas, they mostly affect middle aged women. Birth control and HRT have been known triggers, along with radiation and head trauma. While we can't be sure of my cause, it is a good chance that my 20 plus years on birth control pills were a factor. These tumors are rare, but due to my history, hormone treatment of any kind is not an option.

That's been happening to me lately. My heart will be pounding. I put my apple watch on and my heart rate will be high. I had it checked out by an electrocardiologist and my heart is fine.

Have you ever woken up just as you were about to fall asleep? Did you wake up with a jerk, or the feeling of falling? This is called hypnic jerks, hypnagogic jerks, or sleep starts. Hypnic jerks are quite common, and the condition isn’t a serious disorder.
What Are Hypnic Jerks?
Hypnic jerks are strong, involuntary contractions that usually happen just when you’re drifting into sleep. This jolt in the body can startle you awake when you’re in the period between being awake and being asleep. Lots of people experience hypnic jerks from time to time, and researchers think that around 70% of people will experience hypnic jerks.
Hypnic jerks have a lot of names, including hypnagogic jerks, night starts and sleep twitches. All these terms describe the same thing. Hypnic jerks aren’t a serious disorder, they’re simply a natural contraction in the body that can happen to anyone.

Yes, I have had that forever. It has something do with muscles that naturally twitch during sleep and being in the middle of an REM cycle.

I've had some signs of perimenopause that I was chalking up to my thyroid and even the COVID vaccine but I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it's my body just changing. I'm at the right age, I'll be 47 soon.
'I'll be speaking to my gyno when I see her in May but I was wondering what to expect if I am in fact starting perimenopause. Thanks!

Well, I had a lovely, lol, appointment today and they did mention that the fact I had Covid could have something to do with it, but my problem existed way before Covid, so they dismissed it and said it's probably my age.
I get an internal ultrasound (it's a real quick shove the wand in and do the ultrasound) about every 4-6 months because they are watching a cyst, and everything looks fine and all tests were perfect. All of this is in addition to my regular visit. Ultrasounds are part of regular visits here.

So wait, they don't do them regularly there? All my GYN experience is out of the US. My mom never took me to them in the US, so the first exam was in Australia and that is normally done by a GP. Then when I moved here, it's been ultrasound central.

I only had 1 or 2 ever and it was when I was pregnant with my first and it was very early so that was the only way to get the heartbeat.

So wait, they don't do them regularly there? All my GYN experience is out of the US. My mom never took me to them in the US, so the first exam was in Australia and that is normally done by a GP. Then when I moved here, it's been ultrasound central.
Nope, no ultrasounds.

If you are in the throws (or past it) at what age did it start for you?
I've had some signs of perimenopause that I was chalking up to my thyroid and even the COVID vaccine but I'm starting to wonder if perhaps it's my body just changing. I'm at the right age, I'll be 47 soon.
'I'll be speaking to my gyno when I see her in May but I was wondering what to expect if I am in fact starting perimenopause. Thanks!
They are linking the vaccine to things like this now. But according to past posts that’s crazy talk. ….glad I didn’t give my daughter this vaccine.
I don't think it's vaccine related, I have too many things going on that coincide with perimenopause symptoms along with being the right age. My mom also went through perimenopause around this age as well.
Well, I had a lovely, lol, appointment today and they did mention that the fact I had Covid could have something to do with it, but my problem existed way before Covid, so they dismissed it and said it's probably my age.
I get an internal ultrasound (it's a real quick shove the wand in and do the ultrasound) about every 4-6 months because they are watching a cyst, and everything looks fine and all tests were perfect. All of this is in addition to my regular visit. Ultrasounds are part of regular visits here.
Those ultrasounds are such fun. I haven't had one of those since way back when I was going through IF treatments.

Only if you have an issue, like a cyst or a fibroid they are watching
