Help me understand how our rights are being taken away

Sorry something happened and post to before I typed anything.

Everyone is complaining on how our rights are being taken away that this is unconstitutional etc. etc.

But we have never been completely free we’ve always had laws that we’ve had to obey.

Example seatbelts were not always required to be worn then a law passed says you have to wear a seatbelt.

Now you can choose to not wear your seatbelt risk getting a ticket may be arrested though obviously that would be extreme and risk death if you got into an accident but you still have a choice not to do it.

Now the same with masks you could choose not to wear on and risk may be getting sick and risk not being able to go into places but you still have that choice.

So why is no one complaining that having to wear a seatbelt is against our constitutional rights but yet masks are.

Vaccines also; vaccine mandates have been around forever why were those OK but now that the Covid vaccine ones are not OK and now against peoples rights??!! (And this goes for the ones that weren’t mad about the original vaccine mandate I do know people that were mad at those from the very beginning)

Listen I am all for choice on all vaccines not just the Covid one and I’m all about masks should be optional but I don’t sit here preaching that my rights are being taken away and it’s unconstitutional and all these conspiracy theories that are out there.

I’m so confuse why now people all of a sudden think that our rights are being taken away when we’ve always had laws and the majority of them were not around when the constitution was originally written??!!

It baffles me that some people are so consumed by this and are really worrying that The government is going to take over everything but yet never was concerned about all the other laws that were passed. Is it because it just not something they agree with so its wrong to them??!!

Seems like so much wasted effort to believe in conspiracy theories!!

I agree with you that I don't think that the government has really taken away any rights or even deviated that much from things that have been done in the past. What I do find is that there is a lot of overstepping going on - but this started even prepandemic. I think that the pandemic just brought it to light for many.

Re: Help me understand how our rights are being taken away

There are so many things I want to say in response to this and I want to be respectful because you ask valid questions but it gets me so emotional that I don't know if I can express myself properly.

1. Yes, laws get passed. How do laws get passed? Remember the cartoon "how a bill becomes a law?" When new laws are proposed, open to public comment, and then elected legislators vote on whether or not to pass it? Yeah well that is a little bit different than one single person just says "I say to do this from now on" and everyone has to comply.
What is worse is these people (Biden, Cuomo, etc.) are heavily influenced by private companies (including pharma) and certain extreme members of their political party are putting immense pressure on them.

2. I hate when people use the seat belt example. Seat belts are temporary and non-intrusive. You can take the seat belt off. You aren't going to be prevented from breathing from wearing a seat belt. You aren't going to have a heart attack caused by a seat belt. There is evidence that seat belts actually are effective in saving lives. Seat belts were extensively tested. And most importantly, if you are in fact harmed by a malfunctioning seat belt, you can sue the manufacturer.

3. The first Amendment guarantees us the right to freedom and expression without repurcussions from the government (except for hate speech etc.). These rights have been trampled upon by the extensive censorship and banning of content. Yes I understand "private companies can do what they want" but the reality is that government is the one saying daily how we need to "stop misinformation" and pressuring these companies to remove google search results and ban or fire people who speak out against the narrative they want. This is called propaganda.

4. It is so easy to label anyone who doesn't go along with the liberal view a "conspiracy theorist" when in actuality there are a ton of things that were "conspiracies" within the past two years that have turned out to be true.

5. I find it funny when people say "I have a right to an abortion" and "I have a right to health care." Really? Nobody has taken away your "right" to an abortion. And "health care" isn't even an actual "right." Why do people complain and cry about these things?

6. We have right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If I cannot feed my family because you will not let me work because I will not inject myself with a shot that has been the least transparent injection in history, then you are taking away my rights and my children's rights to food, shelter and an education. What about business owners and landlords who have lost everything? Do they not have a right to feed their families?

7. It may not seem like our "rights" are being taken away but they slowly and calculatingly are. It starts small. 14 days. Wear a mask. Stay distant. Don't go to school. Lose your business. Get 4 shots in a year. If you don't you cannot work or go anywhere. It doesn't matter if you can't breathe or if you get a debilitating side effect. It is for the greater good. Now they want people to open their homes and make apartments. Just take take take take and never any give.

8. I can say so much more but I will end with saying that the reason I (and many others) do not trust the government or media is because of the complete and utter hypocrisy in everything they say and do. It is hard to just suck it up and follow all the "mandates" that one single tyrant makes when you KNOW that there is no actual science behind it....except maybe political science.

But that's just my opinion. :)

I don't think you can compare seat belts to what is going on, like forcing people to get a jab or risk losing their livelihood...

This is one. I have never been asked to show proof of any vaccine to work in a private company.
While my current company is not requiring this, many others are. And if I want to go work in my NYC office I would have to be vaccinated because of the city mandate.
No big deal to me personally, but my cousin works for the federal govt and has been in danger of losing his job (that he has had for over 20 years) for months now- he's been working like crazy to get an exemption.
The right to earn a living is a big one.
Other than in healthcare, I don't think any jobs have forced you to take a vaccine- especially one that doesn't prevent spread of an illness.
Lets take the flu shot- other than health care workers, has anyone's job forced a flu shot on them as a condition of employment? Even though flu can take out a ton of people in the office?
No?

So that's one big right that is definitely being infringed on

Blu, you're right. They aren't, or at least not in the context that many of the posters on here are saying.

I don't have time to reply to every point that Chiliswife made but I hope people question/look into her points before they take them at face value because they are largely untrue, distortions, and misrepresentations.

I will say this, though: Saying we don't have the "right" to healthcare like that's a good thing, or like that's how it should be, is representative of a foundational difference in thinking that I don't know how to bridge. It's just morally wrong and as long as we as a society continue to accept that as truth the longer we'll continue our decline.

I never ever said health care - or abortion - should not be a right. THAT is YOUR distortion. Of course people should have health care. You completely missed the point.

I agree with many points you both made.

I think many people have taken all things relating to COVID, mandates that were put into place for the sole purpose of protecting the public interest and health, and have grossly overexaggerated the detrimental impact it has had on their "freedoms", their rights and their lives.

Trust me when I say that I certainly do not agree with much of the politics in this country and on BOTH sides there are those that will abuse their power. However, I 100% do not think or have ever once felt that the government was trying to "control" me or strip me of my freedoms and right to express myself. Aside from a wearing a mask and social distancing when needed, my life has felt pretty much the same as it always did. I haven't at all felt that I've had less rights or freedoms than I did prior to COVID.

I find it sad how so many in this country have behaved during this WORLD health crisis and pandemic. I think that is far more disturbing than anything the government has implemented or asked of people.

Consider yourself lucky then. Many have lost jobs when this first started or after having to choose between a vaccine and their career.

You come off as a very spoiled, self-centered individual who think that anyone who experiences anything differently is just wrong and they have no right to complain.

Many people have to make choices with regards to their careers and having a negative effect on their lives. I was forced into something within my own job that I didn't want and it has negatively affected me long term. I have been with the company over 15 years when this happened. It felt like I had no choice but I did - I could have left. i could have changed careers but I choose to take the situation I was offered even though it was a negative for me. It's what the work place in in the US.
You don't want to vaccinate no one is forcing you to at this point. But your choice may have consequences that are negative and have a great unwanted impact. That is choice.

As usual, WTF are you even talking about?

***APOLOGIES TO ALL FOR DERAILING THIS THREAD FOR A QUICK SECOND****

I will say this ONE more time and then I will not continue to engage with you on this thread or any other thread EVER again.

Something is f@&king wrong with you. Your BLATANT OBESSION with me along with the ludicrous amount of time and energy you put into assuming things about people you don't know, strangers on a forum who aren't your friends and this forum as a whole is so unhealthy and mentally unstable that I can't even understand how you manage to function in your real life.

Likely, because you don't have a real life.

You're a sad little follower on here who just "claps" and "likes" everything the same three people on here say because you're so blindingly insecure that the the attention from people who don't know you from a hole in the wall seemingly means the world to you.

You stalk posters and try to research the h-e-l-l out of them.

You obsess over posters and every word they have ever spoken.

But worse is that you are a passive-aggressive insulting POS.

And you NEVER remove yourself from any thread or conversation because without LIF you have NOTHING to fill your day with. You reply rapid fire 24/7 because this forum is seemingly all you have in your life that matters to you.

That's sad. YOU are sad.

I SO am tired of the same old nonsense with you. You have ruined this forum over the last year and a half with your moronic comments and $hit stirring. You sound like an unhinged idiot every time you reply to me pretending to know anything at all about who I am, what I have, who I know, what I do and on and on and on.

You're a joke. I pity you and literally laugh every time I see one of your posts because you are honestly one of the saddest people I've ever come across. A pathetic, insecure, envious soul who craves attention from strangers and who has made a silly little forum her reason for breathing.

Carry on if you must but going forward, regardless of how many times you address me on here, you will be IGNORED. I am done with all of your games and drama. I am MORE than happy to leave you to whatever epic level of crazy you seem to have in your life. Get help psycho. For real. Something isn't right in your head.

The choice was specific to the career I had. It had nothing to do with another employer such as the reference to the vaccine. It's a requirement for some employers and not for others. If your current employer makes it a stipulation of employment; as an employee you can choose not to abide by their requirements and cease working there.

Help me understand how our rights are being taken away

I so agree with Chiliswife and really didn't even want to respond because it breaks my heart that generation after generation has become so compliant. I'm a bit older but I would not change the way I grew up for anything. We lived and enjoyed life. Everything wasn't made "safe" for us. I laugh at the memes on facebook with the kids climbing the ropes at school that would never happen today. and the same goes with what you call losing our rights. You probably don't even know the rights you had. I have 3 kids about 10 years apart and just the way the "experts" have changed the way we are suppose to raise them boggles my mind too many experts and who says they are always right? Seat belts another stupid law. I have to wear a seat belt in a car but a motorcycle doesn't and thats far more dangerous. The thing is over the years they have slowly taken away many rights but in a way that people don't even realize it. People keep throwing in about other vaccines being mandated and time and time again it has been pointed out that the other mandated vaccines have been around forever, they are given over the course of years and they have proven to eradicate the disease that they were intended to. so I wish people would stop putting this covid shot in the same category as childhood vaccines.

The more we look to the government to help us the more we have to rely on the government to help us and the more we need them the better for the government. I was told by my mom numerous times growing up to get a good job with benefits, not depend on the government to provide my benefits.
