I don’t understand something. Are we now also saying that the vaccine doesn’t prevent serious illness or death? Because something like 95% of Nassau county residents are vaccinated. Hospitals can not be getting overrun by the remaining 5% of unvaccinated (many of whom have probably already had covid). can someone explain it to me? The vaccine can’t even be preventing serious illness if the hospitals are already overrun.
you make too much sense, too much common sense!!
every person that i know that has covid right now has the vaccine. one of them just got out of the hospital.
another one where the mother and daughter have covid (vaxd) and the father does not (not vaxd). Hes been testing every day for almost two weeks now and still negative.
make it all make sense.

It’s 1 or 2. We are going to a concert this weekend and previously it was vaccine or test but now it’s vaccine only and no mask. If they allowed unvaccinated - everyone would need to mask.

But her card will still work to get her in to this place , unmasked- and she is as vaccinated as me right now.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I'm fully vaccinated and still wear my mask because I know that the vaccine isn't 100% like they lead us to believe at first. So, I AM attending events and eating out in NYC, etc, etc and still wearing a mask. Cases are on the rise and doesn't seem to matter if you are vaccinated...so I am smart enough to realize that and still wear my mask.
But you were sold on if you get the vaccine, you will be protected and won't have to wear a mask.
When was the last time you got tested? I would rather be tested than have to rely on a mask that doesn't work anyway.
Let's be clear. Masks do work to stop the spread. Are they 100%? No, nothing is. Do they slow down spread of disease. YES! That does not take much sense to figure that out.
CoVid or not...with Flu A ramping up to visit many for the holidays...I am happy to continue to wear a mask. I don't want the flu.
Do you usually get the flu?
Why would that matter?
If you (in general) get the flu on a regular basis or have a lot in the past, I can see being worried about it.
I have never been worried about the flu and honestly I think maybe I have had it twice in my entire life.
Who would want the flu? Masks WILL decrease chances of spreading illness. You said they don't work anyway... that's false information.

No not really. I’m asking this in all seriousness. Putting all nastiness aside. I swear I am. Even though nothing is 100%, and I can understand almost the hesitancy or not at wanting to vaccinate since that is putting a substance into your body, knowing that wearing a mask is at least effective in preventing the spread, even though not 100%, what is the justification for not wearing one? If you could protect even one person at risk of dying from Covid OR the flu, why wouldn’t you do it? To take a political stand against what you think is control? Is that worth it? Let’s say COVID is only a flu like virus. And both the flu and Covid we KNOW are or can be deadly to some, living through the hell that has been this two years, why can’t we learn something and be considerate and just wear a dang mask? Ok, some are asthmatic and the mask suffocates them. Fine. But for those of us without serious health issues, why is it so hard for us to wear a mask to protect THEM? That’s what irritates me. And this is where I have the issue. I think beyond myself. And from the beginning we have know that the mask is more protecting other people from you than protecting yourself. Sure it helps some for me to wear the mask to thwart off germs from myself. But it is more to stop the spread to others from me.

This. None of us live in a bubble. We live in a society, and we need to consider others to a reasonable extent because what we do can impact others whether we admit it or not.
This has opened my eyes to the fact that if I am feeling unwell and need to be out, I should probably wear a mask in the winter in crowded indoor places.

The key word is when you are feeling unwell. I agree with that. If you are sick you should stay home. If you can't, then yes 100% wear a mask . But we are now masking everyone at all times.

Agree with above but dont want to quote because its so long. We are masking everyone at all times. Sorry but that is too much. You may feel it is not a big deal but there are many social, physical and psychological issues with that. Not being able to freely breathe. Not being able to hear people speak clearly. Not ever seeing someone smile. Always having to make sure you have a clean cloth to put on and off and on and off. I was ok with all this for almost 2 years - even though I was NOT sick - but no more. And if celebrities at awards shows, players and spectators at sports games, and politicians at most events can go maskless, then so can I.

No not really. I’m asking this in all seriousness. Putting all nastiness aside. I swear I am. Even though nothing is 100%, and I can understand almost the hesitancy or not at wanting to vaccinate since that is putting a substance into your body, knowing that wearing a mask is at least effective in preventing the spread, even though not 100%, what is the justification for not wearing one? If you could protect even one person at risk of dying from Covid OR the flu, why wouldn’t you do it? To take a political stand against what you think is control? Is that worth it? Let’s say COVID is only a flu like virus. Sure it helps some for me to wear the mask to thwart off germs from myself. But it is more to stop the spread to others from me.
This. None of us live in a bubble. We live in a society, and we need to consider others to a reasonable extent because what we do can impact others whether we admit it or not.
This has opened my eyes to the fact that if I am feeling unwell and need to be out, I should probably wear a mask in the winter in crowded indoor places.
The key word is when you are feeling unwell. I agree with that. If you are sick you should stay home. If you can't, then yes 100% wear a mask . But we are now masking everyone at all times.
And that is where I find an issue
But what we have learned is you could be sick with Covid and feel perfectly fine so this argument doesn’t hold.

I think the issue is that hospitals are getting overrun again. My sister is a nurse at a local hospital and they have had to open up overflow rooms.
Maybe because they fired so many that it is not that they are getting overrun but they don’t have enough staff. Also, just like before Covid, there are people that run to the hospital for every little thing.
My sister said everyone in her building complied with the mandate so no one was fired. The overflow section is for Covid only. She said it is getting bad again. She’s on the frontlines. She also said almost everyone who is admitted is unvaccinated. She had no reason to be lying. She’s actually pretty laid back about Covid (vaccinated but never wears a mask, lives her regular 2019 life) and is currently concerned about the most recent wave.
Yup, my husband said the same. They didn't end up firing anyone (smaller hospital) and have the staff. Yesterday & Monday the ER was over capacity. They are starting to get worried. He's also been pretty lax about things (opposite of me LOL) but is now getting worried. His worry is not "we're going to get covid and die" because I think few of us really think that anymore...but more that numbers will rise and the gov't will try to put all these mandates in place again. THAT'S why we're worried. We don't want mandates/shutdowns, etc again.
This is EXACTLY what my sister is saying. We were talking about my niece’s birthday party in mid January and she said there is no way that is happening. The catering hall will be shut down by then.

I'm not going to quote everyone as it's starting to hurt my old eyes lol but I don't have a problem with the theory of a mask. I think it might be a good idea going forward that if you are sick or coughing/sneezing that you put on one. I would actually appreciate that because I can't count the number of times people sneezed on me either on mass transit or in the store over the years. It's gross. What I have a problem with is wearing a mask a preventative measure if you are not sick and have no underlying condition. If you do then it should be your choice to wear a mask. Same with the shot. For years, people have been walking around spreading the flu and no one cared. People do die or go to the hospital from that too.
I also want to mention that masks are a problem for many people. The special needs community and the deaf community are suffering greatly with the masks limiting their communication.

There is not much more we can do as how many times are people sick and not go to the doctor and feel ok and still go out?
I am not one to run to the doctor when I am sick, unless it is really, really bad so who knows what I have had in the past. I do stay home though when I am sick, especially in the beginning when I am contagious.

Capacity restrictions for indoor events are coming. Canada already implemented a 50% capacity restriction for a few of their NHL teams arenas.
That’s going to set us so far back as it now cripples the economy again.

I’m not really into conspiracy theories but I do have to say this all seems a little crazy how they are recommending all these boosters and making billions off of this and no one is batting an eye because it’s “free” but that’s just because Americans are too stupid to realize that we are all paying for this one way or another.
Nothing is free.
Pfizer is not a charity.

Hospitals can not be getting overrun by the remaining 5% of unvaccinated (many of whom have probably already had covid). can someone explain it to me? every person that i know that has covid right now has the vaccine. one of them just got out of the hospital.
another one where the mother and daughter have covid (vaxd) and the father does not (not vaxd). Hes been testing every day for almost two weeks now and still negative.
make it all make sense.
Because 95% of Nassau county is not fully vaccinated. It’s 75%. I do not know the percentage of the 75% that have gotten their boosters.
ETA: I did not look for the hospital information for Nassau county, but I looked at it for my state.
71% of the population is fully vaccinated. 27% of the population have received their booster. 30% of the ICU beds are taken up by Covid patients; ~94% of that are unvaccinated. 60% are other emergencies. 10% of the ICU beds are free. They have left that 10% free by holding off on certain cancer and heart operations. They have a reserve that can be pulled out of 12%, but that can take several days. My city is overrun, but most of the best hospitals of the state are here.. Those numbers are my state numbers.
I’m going to guess you have similar numbers there as well, but your vaccine rollout was in full swing a few months ahead of ours.

This determination is due to an exponential increase of positive cases among the student community at Cornell, currently there are 469 active cases, of which 227 were positive last Monday and 214 on Tuesday, this means 94% in the last two days.
There are 25,000 students at Cornell. LESS than 2% of the amount of students attending the school tested positive. How many hospitalized or died? I am sure no one and no one will.
What happened to the Delta variant? It just disappeared?
This has to stop someplace where people realize that this virus will always be around and we have to learn to live with it and treat it like every other one.
All I heard from people yesterday at work at lunch and out to dinner last night was people talking about Covid and vaccines. Unfortunately I couldn’t scroll by to ignore but the misinformation about some things was ridiculous.
