We topped off gas and got cash, made sure we had enough prescriptions, and are generally going to make sure we have supplies and clear up our yard. I will err on the side of caution rather than regret something afterwards.

Re: Tropical Storm Henri

We're leaving for NH tonight on a planned vacation. We'll spend some time cleaning the backyard and unplugging things like the toaster today. Other than that, we'll just hope our house doesn't get hit by a tree and that it doesn't ruin our vacation in NH too much!

Re: Tropical Storm Henri

I'm always prepared for emergencies, so I won't have to do too much today. Just put away some loose items in the yard. Most of what I'll be doing is after the storm. Checking in on people, and helping out if needed.

I don’t listen to anyone but these 2 guys in Facebook they always give it to you straight ans don’t over hype.

Right know they are saying they don’t think it’s going to trend that much east but there is still a possibility but basically no one is going to know till it gets closer!!

One thing they keep making a point this will be nothing like Sandy sit that’s good.

Hopefully everyone prepared and hopefully it was for nothing.

One thing that seems to be guaranteed is flooding so if you are in a flood area you unfortunately will see flooding.

They also said flash floods will be possible cause of all the rain!

Ahh I forgot about that one site I follow for the snow. They are good.

Sandy didn’t have a direct hit. They said Gloria was the last one. Hopefully it slows down and Jim Cantore is in RI so maybe we are ok lol

Islandwide. They are awesome. I listen to both them and rich because they tend to be similar in the end. We’ll see them at BWW tonight for latest info.

Legit question. Do the taps not run water in a power outage?
I didn't think the faucets were electric powered.
What's with the buying of water?

If you have a private well the pump wouldn’t work. My bff (not on LI) has no water when her power goes out.

Yes true . But i don't think there are many wells on long island.

I don’t think so, either. Maybe out east?

There are plenty of wells out east. In fact sections of Manorville do not even have clean water now because of the contamination from the Grumman plant. It's a big thing going on right now between the town of Riverhead and SCWA. So the bottled water is because the water supply could become contaminated.

As far as preparedness I didn't go grocery shopping because I figured if I lose power more than a few days, that would be a waste. We can use up what we have. I did go crazy doing laundry today to make sure we have enough clothes and towels and extra sheets. I am not looking forward to this. I am south shore, east end, a few miles from the water...

Re: Tropical Storm Henri

I live out East and I know lots of families who depend on well water and whose bath tubs are filled with water right now as no electricity = no water. We had well water during Sandy and were without electricity AND water for a week. Thankfully we have town water now so at least water is not a stress. Stay safeChat Icon

Good luck!!! Went to a bbq bday party today and while we didn’t bring anything home, we have plenty to get us through tomorrow hoping it only lasts a day.

All those people who went insane getting gas and propane and food. Glad it wasn’t too bad though.
