I don’t have a cleaning service because nobody will clean like I do. Though I’m considering getting someone just for the bathrooms and floors so I can save time there as well.

This. I am so particular about how things get clean but I HATE doing the bathrooms and the floors take forever. I've been tossing around the idea of having someone in just for those things but I feel weird having a stranger in my house. We'll see. I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Re: Happy Friyah!!!

I have to be honest, and it's kind of embarrassing, but a clean house isn't a huge priority for me.
I don't really clean much unless I know people will be over to see it.
So I'd never pay money for someone to clean because as much as I hate doing it, it's not a priority to me.
A dirty house or dust really doesn't bother me at all.
Not sure what gene I'm missing....

Re: Happy Friyah!!!

Getting a cleaner means you clean before the cleaner arrives. I had a cleaner when I broke my shoulder a few years ago and kept the cleaning going and it was more work. Just saying.

I kinda wish I was missing that gene. It drives me mad. A dirty sink with pieces of food in it would cause me to lose sleep.
My family home wasn’t kept clean and Growing up I felt self conscious about that. Which is most likely why I’m slightly obsessive about keeping my house clean. If unexpected company shows up (never happens) I’d be mortified if my house wasn’t clean.

I am Missing this cleaning gene too and I don’t clean even my house. My DH does but he definitely doesn’t stay in top of hit.

However After we finally do renovations in our house I’m definitely considering putting money aside to hire a cleaning person to come every 2 weeks !!

We do have someone that cuts our lawn weekly. We both work full time I am certainly not cutting that lawn and my DH tried to do it for a year but with work and other activities and life it was difficult so we gave back in and hired someone again. It’s worth the $22 a week to not have to find the time to cut the lawn!

I’m the same way. When we sold our house on LI DH was home when the inspection was being done and he overheard the inspector say to the buyer “this is the cleanest house I’ve ever been in. And I’ve been in a lot of houses.”

The rest of my life is almost always in shambles but my house is clean. We all have our things!

Happy Friyah!!!

We have someone clean our house every 2 weeks and I do grocery pickup through Shoprite. We probably order delivery once every 2-3 weeks as I enjoy cooking. DH does our lawn currently but we live on a double corner with 3 sides of sidewalks. He spends the whole weekend on the lawn if he has to trim. He finally said we might get a landscaper next year. We built our own deck a few years ago and just finished part of our basement ourselves (except Sheetrock, spackle and paint). So we’re a mix of DIY and outsource.

Funny you mention how you grew up- I kind of had the opposite. My parents were always pretty clean and anal about it. Every Saturday we had to help clean the house.
I used to hate it. I swore when I got my own house I wasn't wasting every Saturday cleaning.
So I kind of rebelled the opposite way.
Funny how things like that affect you in the future. LOL

So the funny thing is, if I were moving and knew people were coming to look at the house or the inspector was coming like that, I would spend 2 days scrubbing the house up and down and making it immaculate. So they would probably say the same about my house.
Dh laughs when people are coming over about how anal I am about making it look great, hiding clutter, etc. He says- I wish you would ALWAYS feel this way about the house, not just for others to see.
So I'm a slob in private.. but a slob who is very worried about outside appearances to others.

Re: Happy Friyah!!!

I have a cleaning crew that comes every other week. I have a high stress job and work a lot of extra hours. DH is a clean freak and I decided that I do not want to spend my free time cleaning to his standards. Now he can be annoyed at the cleaning crew when things are not up to par!

DH mows our lawn and I edge. I also do all of the tree and landscape trimming and I am pretty handy around the house when it comes to fixing things. I took apart our dryer when it broke, replaced a belt and it worked for another two years before we had to finally replace it! I also replaced the capacitor to our HVAC system, refinished our outdoor furniture and replaced the starter to our gas grill for a $19 part. I enjoy the challenge of household repairs!

We have a landscaper currently. We had a cleaning lady when I commuted into the city but we found she was stealing things from us (a few little things at a time). so I haven’t replaced her - and now we are home more so it doesn’t make sense.

I do my own grocery shopping. Sometimes I will do curbside for a few items at Target though.

For repairs - we do a mix of DIY and professional depending on what it is.

I am more relaxed when my house is clean or at least everything is out of sight and it looks neat.
It is like shoveling in a snow storm with my family so it is non stop.
But then I have to say I am done and there is no reason to go crazy. Like right now my one kid has stuff in the bathroom after their shower. I can’t bother putting it in their room as no one is coming over to see it.
I grew up in an immaculate house and my husbands was disgusting and no one cleaned nor cared.
When I first met him it didn’t bother me but now I would be horrified.
His line is always, Martha Stewart isn’t coming over, but I just can’t sit down with messes around me.

We do a majority of things ourselves. We save that money for more important things. I’m lucky to have a handy husband

When we were selling the last house we were in, people kept commenting asking if the house was staged because it was immaculate. I was a bit nuts about that because at any moment, someone would want to come and see it. I legit shined the chrome in the bathrooms daily. Psycho

Now my car? Another story. Filthy. Not hoarder filthy with food and garbage. Just not cleaned often. Dusty. Leaves and rocks in all weather mats.

I consider when it rains as my car is clean. My husband washes his car once a week and it makes no sense to me. It is going to get dirty right away. lololol
