I don't have any phobias that I'm aware of. I have a concern for my safety at heights, but if I know I'm secure, then heights don't really bother me.
Since I don't truly understand phobias, I am always open to learning more about various types of neurodiversities. Has anyone's fear increased or decreased over time? Have you tried any methods to cope with, or overcome these fears? Did anything help?

My claustrophobia has definitely increased over the years. I have had two or three experiences that triggered a more severe response and I think those experiences are what led to my claustrophobia getting worse.
I have not tried formal therapy mainly because it's my understanding they would use immersion therapy to treat it and that thought sends me into a panic. I've learned what my triggers are, I can usually anticipate my response and I know what situations to avoid before a panic attack takes hold. I rely a lot on deep breathing and I have a little device (looks like an inhaler) that helps you to focus and regulate your breathing. If all else fails, I always have Xanax which is a miracle pill for anxiety attacks.

Pretty much the same here. I had a triggering incident in 2004 that started my claustrophobia...had no issues before. I was locked into a very small space on a ride in Epcot. Nothing “bad” happened; it didn’t break down or anything. I just started freaking out, but kept it together for the sake of my then 7 year old nephew who was with me. I’ve been terribly claustrophobic ever since. My three c-sections were a nightmare for me because you’re paralyzed from the waist down during the surgery. I avoid elevators at all costs to the point where I walked up and down 17 flights multiple times per day while staying on the 17th floor of a hotel!
I can’t say it’s gotten worse through the years, but like Hofstra, I would not consider desensitization for the reason she stated unless there was a true reason to do so, like my dream job was on the 40th floor of a building or something...

One time we were in an airport and had our luggage and I had to roll my luggage onto the escalator step and I couldn't do it.
I freaked out, panicked, left DH and DD and ran over to the elevator- to go up ONE floor.

I do the same thing with stairs and escalators! The fear of stepping on the down escalator especially is worse. The escalators on the top floor at the Queens mall always made me want to vomit and pass out, being so high up and the escalators being completely open with no walls or barriers and being able to look down to the ground floor. It's the fear of the escalator + the fear of heights x 1,000. Or the insanely steep and long escalator at the metro mall in Queens. I get queasy just thinking about it. I used to have to be forced onto them.
I've been to Moscow a couple of times and the escalators in the Metro are CRAZY high. Something to do with the geology of the land that requires that they go deep. The tallest one has 740 steps and takes over three minutes to climb.
Even more crazy is that they are faster than the ones here. The first time I saw one I really hesitated before I stepped.
Those things really freaked me out.

To answer the question, I don't know if I have any.
I guess maybe I have silly fears about serious things.
I disproportionately worry about something happening to my teeth or my eyes - things that you either can't replace or are very expensive to do so.

Elevators terrify me, too small and too enclosed. I avoid them at all costs and will always choose the stairs.

I have an extremely irrational fear of bees. All kinds. Don’t tell me “oh, it’s only a bumble bee blah blah blah” it’s a bee and I don’t want it near me.
I’m that maniac you see out scream and run. Outdoor dining during the day is a big no no for me because I will run the entire time I’m trying to eat

There is an escalator at a subway stop...I THINK it's 59th street? It is so long and steep going up. Add to that being packed in and it's like a full on panic attack. I always feel like someone in front of me is going to fall backwards on to me and cause a chain reaction of us all falling backwards down it.

It's interesting because I can deal with those escalators in 59th st, or the oculus, going up or down. But I took a train in DC, I think it was Dupont station or something like that, and going down the escalators I was by my self, and I almost had a panic attack because I kept thinking what if this stops and I fall forward. It was maybe as open as the one in the oculus, but maybe it was larger. Pretty scary for me.

I hate flying too. Part of it is my claustrophobia but the other part is having no control coupled with the fear of death. I will fly but I detest every second and I never relax the whole flight.

I took the subway daily for about 22 years and never was really afraid. Then when I got pregnant with my DD in 2016 I was suddenly afraid that someone would come up behind me and shove me in front of an oncoming train. Maybe it was the fact that it was not just MY life in danger or the fact that there were so many more stories of subway crazies coming out at around that time. I would literally stand behind the pillars just in case until the train stopped.

Same - I stopped flying for 8 years b/c I was so scared. I went to therapy to start flying again and I flew 3 times that year (with the help of meds and I was still terrified the whole time), but I haven't flown again since 2018. I want to travel now that things are opening up again, but flying still terrifies me.
