Regarding the mask wearing and still protecting others (didn’t want to quote everyone)
IMO I think once the vaccine is widely available to the public there should be no more need for masks or worrying about protecting others. If people want to be protected they should get the vaccine if they don’t want to get it it’s on them and no one else is responsible on making sure they are safe.
I am on the fence on getting it or giving it to my kids but I certainly don’t expect others to have to wear masks to protect me because I am choosing not to get vaccinated.
FYI- The vaccine will not be offered to children, as it has not been widely tested on children.

I don’t believe that there has been anything put out yet from the CDC regarding patients recovered from covid with antibodies. Last I read the CDC didn’t comment yet on the vaccine for these individuals, however, researchers with Johns Hopkins commented saying it is recommended everyone who can get the vaccine gets it even if they have had covid because antibodies do decrease overtime based on current findings and it is possible, like your FIL to be reinfected. It is highly likely that if it’s medically ok, he can get it, I would ask his primary doctor that oversees his care!

Thank you! I'm sure they will call us for consent before they do anything as my DH is his Healthcare proxy. We'll discuss it with them for sure.

Feel great. SO MANY of my coworkers are getting and there is a huge demand among employees. No issues reported thus far amongst employees. Will continue to update. My second dose is in 4 weeks
Just the doctors and nurses get it in the hospitals now or everyone that works there? I have friends who are not a nurse or doctor and haven't heard they have been offered it yet.
Not sure, maybe depends on their hospital? In mine we are assigned by units and departments so someone in my department that is a nurse receptionist got it because of the floor she’s assigned to.
Are these people near covid patients? I thought you said you were a Behavioral Analyst?

No question is dumb regarding vaccines especially this one. Last I read, this was the plan...to be given yearly just like the flu vaccine especially if they still think immunity doesn’t last long.

I am a behavioral Analyst and work in psychiatric medicine and general medicine to provide behavior analytic interventions as well as counseling. Many patients I see are covid + and are provided with counseling to deal with the anxiety of their diagnosis and yes, to provide support to them to say goodbye to their families. I am with covid patients daily.

ALL hospital employees will be offered the vaccine. I work through the entire hospital so I was eligible because of my department location.

The Pfizer vaccine needs the deep freeze. The Moderna needs about -4F or -20C for up to 6 months, which most home freezers can easily get to.
I heard that the plan will probably be to send the Pfizer vaccine to specialized locations (like hospitals) that have the ability to store at the very low temps, and send the Moderna to other locations that don't have deep freeze storage. (CVS, doctor's offices, etc)
The current guestimate is that 70% of the population should be vaccinated by late Spring, early Summer.

I heard that the first dose is usually fine and then mild side effects happen after the second dose.
The Moderna vaccine does not need the deep freeze so if that gets approved it will make distribution much easier.
I don't see how it's possible for the entire world to receive herd immunity. Right now it seems more like it's every nation for themselves.

Yeah. They keep telling us about the one that needs the deep freeze. I'm assuming that is the Pfizer one. They say they have lots on order and there will be stations set up to give it here. I’ll trust them on this one.
Meanwhile, our hospitals are totally full and we are on full lockdown here. It’s getting bad. We had a record number of deaths the other day.

It was a simple question. The poster is not a nurse and wanted to know who is eligible in a hospital for the vaccine. The only people I know are doctors and nurses getting it. Nothing more than that :)

I asked a friend of mine that works in a hospital if say, the woman who works at the front desk where you check in, or the security guards, for example were being offered the vaccine and she said not at this time at her hospital. Only those that have direct patient contact, so I don't think it was an ignorant question at all.

No question is dumb regarding vaccines especially this one. Last I read, this was the plan...to be given yearly just like the flu vaccine especially if they still think immunity doesn’t last long.

I hope not, these are the ones that really scare me.
Flu vaccine can't be stored below freezing, so unless things change drastically, they can't combine the Covid-19 mRNA vaccine and the influenza vaccine.

It was a simple question. The poster is not a nurse and wanted to know who is eligible in a hospital for the vaccine. The only people I know are doctors and nurses getting it. Nothing more than that :)
Each hospital is distributing at their discretion, since in different settings certain people may be at more risk than they would be in a different setting. It also depends on hop many they have & how many staff members they have.
It is an interesting question--my husband works in a hospital & I keep asking him for updates. It has more to do with potential contact than job title.They started with people who work in the Emergency room & ICUs, I believe.
I assume that would include, for example, the security guards in the ER.
All hospital employees will have the option to get it. They just aren't getting all their doses at once, so they will just keep moving down the line.
He is primarily remote, so he is a the bottom of the list, but they have told all employees they will have the option.
Like OP's hospital, it was also well received.

DHs friend is a security manager at a Northwell hospital and he just got his today.
So yes, it really depends on the risk and patient contact more so than the job title.
I assume security in the ER is around Covid patients quite a bit so they probably are up there on the list to get it first, etc.

I'm guessing it's just for the simple fact that they work in the hospital and have shared spaces amongst staff members who may work with Covid patients. Like the elevators, restrooms, etc. I'm glad they are vaccinating the staff. Hopefully it prevents them from bringing it home to family and then resulting in more community spread.
True, I get that. Just thought in her line of work she wouldn't be near any of this. She is not a doctor or nurse.

Every employee in my hospital by highest risk department is eligible. Example: medical ICU went first as they should. ALL employees including the clerk is eligible on that unit. Job titles do not matter
