Our district plan is either in school Monday Tuesday OR Thursday Friday. There is no lunch offered. All children will be fully remote on Wednesdays. If you are in school M And T you are virtual TH and F. Opposite for kids who are TH and F in school, they will be virtual M and T.. There is also a 100% virtual option. Children with Special Needs have the ability to go to in school four days a week, with Wednesday being the remote cleaning day. School will go from 7:30 am to 1 pm for the middle and high school and 8:30 to 2 for elementary students, We only had to choose for the first semester which is until November and then we can switch if desired.
How are they not offering lunch? Are they still providing for free and reduced?

We had tons of parents upset that no full remote option was being given. Now, they're trying to offer it for k-8. I can tell you plenty of high school parents are upset and asking that they offer it for them too.
I do think high schools are going to be shut down quickly bc the sheer number of people in the building, inability to keep kids in pods, and difficulty with contact tracing when they're moving all over.

My district is doing the same for elementary. And to make things even more “exciting”, my middle schooler will be on a completely different schedule with full A:B days and remote learning on Wednesdays. I’m super stressed about this school year and don’t know how we are going to make it work.

I understand the reasoning behind the elementary kids to go full time with working parents but the older kids need to be in school too. They didn’t do well either distance learning. I am hoping if they do start them off like that it won’t be long until they are back 5 days. We haven’t heard back yet from our district.
It’s not just the childcare aspect, studies show that the younger kids need more face to face interaction - so that’s why they are working more to get elementary kids full time.
We have revised plans. We are starting a phased return on 9/8 (were supposed to open on 9/3). K-2 4x, everyone else 2x on an AA/BB schedule with Weds off. If enough elementary parents opt out - 3&4 might get to go 4x a week.
ETA - there is a full remote option as well.
I feel for these administrators making these plans but not so much after seeing some of their salaries...

our district offered full 5 day with mask for elementary school . if you dont like that option then they said to withdraw child and submit for homeschool .
this was upsetting. they put out a survey for full remote only today. I would have liked to have the choice of hybrid for elementary. all families are different and some do not need their child sitting in a hot room with a mask while doing the extras.
The kids will only be with their teacher for half the day. the other times they are with a TA.
Trying to make the best out of it with my girls whatever they decide.
Im just upset in general because we were in the process of buying a home and then dh lost his job. Basically stuck where we are now.

One in particular went from 1 day per week in person for HS to 5.
Anyway, my district is still at 5 days in person for elementary. MS and HS hybrid where everyone is home on Wed. Half go in Mon and Tues and the other half Thurs and Fri. It will NOT be a live video feed from the classroom on the days you are virtual. It will be a video of the smart board (or something to that effect). School time is still the same but bell schedule is adjusted to allow for more time for movement between classes (how that’s going to work I don’t know).
To answer the OP question: I’m not upset with the plan, the whole situation is upsetting for everyone. And no plan in the world would appease everyone. I do wish they could alternate that Wednesday all home day, or at least balance the amount of in person days since they are minimal at best. If your child is on the Mon/Tues schedule there are some Mon holidays in the fall.
I forgot to add: if you choose remote learning for your elementary child- they will be placed in a virtual learning class with a virtual teacher specific to that class. (So it could be a teacher from a different school within the district with different classmates within the district, all grade level of course). It’s worth mentioning because some of our parents were under the assumption that if they chose virtual it would be their child’s regular classroom teacher doing both the in person and the virtual. That is not the case.

Ask the different plans really is mine boggling. My ped complained that the state really should have made a small number of plans for schools to choose from. It would lessen some of the planning by districts but also let data be more easily compared to see what does and doesn't work so they can continuously improve things.

If our district even tried to do live or pre-recorded instruction parents would have probably been much more understanding. But website links and worksheet downloads 3 days a week for MS/HS is unacceptable IMO.

Now that is absolute horse**** at it's finest. I mean good for the parents for raising a stink, but the fact that the school all of a sudden found resources to do full time K-5 shows you that this particular district just doesn't GAF about it's families and only cares about the bottom dollar.

It sounds like the lunch was sent home so they could bring it back the next day?
There is a huge issue with singling our children who get free lunch. A PP said 5 kids in her district get free lunch. Can you imagine being one of those 5 kids? It’s obviously a very wealthy district. The school needs to figure that out in a way that won’t embarrass those children.

My school does a back pack program for students in need. It’s a generic cinch backpack that gets filled with food on Friday for the weekends. Looks like a bag that kids bring their gym clothes in. They get a guidance pass and pick it up in guidance 5-10 minutes before school lets out. Id imagine they will do something similar for lunches.

This is my main issue. The HVAC systems in schools are terrible. Sanitizing high traffic areas does minimal to prevent the spread.

School will go from 7:30 am to 1 pm for the middle and high school and 8:30 to 2 for elementary students, We only had to choose for the first semester which is until November and then we can switch if desired.
How are they not offering lunch? Are they still providing for free and reduced?
for those children that receive free and reduced lunch they will be sent home with prepacked bags of food daily and on the weekend. To my knowledge, there is less than one child per school in my district that meets this requirement. There are six schools in the district. Each elementary school has 700-900 kids (4), the middle school has 4,000 (1) and high school has 4,000 (1). There are only five kids in the district that qualify according to the reports.
Wait do they expect children to go from 730 to 1 pm without eating anything? My daughter gets very weak, tired, abd can't concentrate if she doesn't eat for many hours. I do believe she is hypoglycemic like me. I would raise a fuking riot if she wasn't allowed to eat in school. That's nonsense. Is that even legal?
Is it possible by "no lunch offered," they mean they aren't serving/selling lunch, i.e., students have to bring their own lunch/snack as opposed to buying at school?
I'm not sure, and perhaps this question was answered elsewhere on the thread, but just throwing it out there!
Yes I had heard things like that- like they have to bring their own.
But here it was stated the children who qualify for free lunch will be "sent home" with something to eat- which implies they aren't allowed to eat in school. And that is utter and complete horseshit.
I'm hoping that because 8:30-2 is a pretty full day and there would need to be lunch. Our normal day is 9-3:15 with lunch and snack.

Just saw the plan. Elementary is going back full-time.
Thank God almighty my daughter is still in Elementary.
And they have lunch (in the classroom).
They are giving an option for full remote but you have to commit for the whole year to that.

Wow - our updated plan sounds better - more interaction on remote days and the ability to switch back and forth between hybrid in person and full remote as needed.

anyone upset with their districts reopening plan?
Our district sent out a survey in June asking about hybrid models (A/B days vs half days 5x per week), needs for transportation and before/after care, general concerns etc. After lots more meetings etc, we were advised (before the Cuomo announcement) of what the back to school plan would look like. K-6 is back 5 days per week. All classrooms are set up to keep kids 6 feet apart. Kids will only be in the hall to go to the bathroom, or to gym - which will take place outdoors weather permitting. Otherwise, K-6 will be in the same classroom all day with the teachers rotating in. For 7-12, the district said they cannot maintain 6ft distance and bring everyone back 5 days per week, so they are on A/B day schedule, with virtual learning they day they are not in the building. All special ed students can come back to school 5 days. All parents have the option of 100% remote/virtual instead of the return to the buildings. HVAC systems were being replaced/upgraded to accommodate appropriate filters. Masks are only required on the bus and in the hallways, not in the classrooms. However, students will be encouraged to wear them at all times unless they are eating.

Honestly all I care about is that she's going back full time 5 days a week.
I'd never chose a remote option for us unless I was forced into it by another lock down ao switching back and forth between anything would be useless for me...and sounds terrible for the kids sense of routine and stability to be honest.

Is your district small as larger districts can’t do that when figuring out spacing for students? They need to utilize all the space they have so they can’t just throw in a desk or 2 every so many days when a student decides to come back.
Also in that district the teachers doing remote will be dedicated just to remote. They would be switching teachers then.
