Since March 14th, my DD has been to two stores with me. One time Lowe's and one time a restaurant for pick-up. It's just me and DH and DD and if he can't watch her, I can't leave her at home or in the car. It's not that simple. I try to plan things so she doesn't have to go with me. But sometimes you need food or a housing necessity and that's the only choice. She wears a mask. I felt like I got some strange looks from some people, but sorry, she's got to get used to the new normal anyway. I think the exposure was good for her understanding of what is going on and what life was like for her parents during this.

The kids came with us to Home Depot the other day, they wore masks and we were only there for maybe 15 minutes.

I have ZERO intention of continuing to do everything separate from my family, we like to go out together and shop and eat and LIVE. I am sick of living like this. We are going on NINE weeks, it's enough at this point.
FTR - We haven't gone out as a family since the beginning of March but once things start to open up, we're getting the hell out of this house.

Exactly. We are EXISTING, not LIVING. It's so freaking depressing.
The reality is, we are far from a vaccine if they even ever find one and there is no definitive treatment so in the meantime, we NEED to learn to live our lives as normally as possible while dealing with this virus because the virus isn't going anywhere. I think COVID is going to become part of the fabric of our society and who knows, maybe over time with more people being exposed its severity becomes less, but in the meantime we CANNOT stay home forever and live in fear.
I want my damn life back now. And NOT a life where I cannot go into stores with my family, or where I cannot eat a meal out, or where I have to wear a mask everywhere I go or where my kids don't go to school and interact with friends. That is INSANITY. I want a regular, normal life, I am sick of just existing. What we are doing now is NOT sustainable on ANY level. Not the social distancing, not the masks, not the lack of gatherings, not any of it. NINE WEEKS.............it's time to get back to functioning.

My son went to stop and shop with his dad. He was bored and wanted to go. He was the on.y kid in the store.
Other than walking can’t seem to do much!

I get it, I do. But people die from countless different things and a host of other viruses too. What I struggle with is if not now, when? What will be different in a month? Three months? A year? The economy and more importantly people's livelihoods cannot take much longer. Having no job and no income stream is NO JOKE. While we are trying to mitigate the effects of the virus we are at the same time creating a entire other bunch of monumental problems from mental health to economic hardships to educational shortcomings. It just has to end.
At the end of the say, this was NEVER about stopping the virus or even lessening the number of cases, it was about slowing the progression as to not overwhelm the hospitals and we accomplished that. With a roughly 98% survival and recovery rate, there is simply no reason to continue like this. Life needs to resume ASAP at this point.
ETA - I don't think it should be a free for all but they need to STOP adding time to the sheltering in place. By end of next week it'll be 10 weeks. We need an END date to all of this, it cannot be open ended anymore. People want to get back to work and living.

Kids in stores
A week ago I took my girls with me to ACE for some potting soil. We were there for literally less than 5 minutes and we all had masks but other than that they have not stepped foot into anywhere other then our house or car since beginning of March.
I notice lately when I go out I see more kids and entire families in the store. People are at the end of their rope, weather is getting nicer...good luck trying to keep people locked up in their homes another few weeks.

No. My kids have not been to any stores. I try to make my husband do most of the shopping, but there have been times he's unable to, so I will go alone.

How come nobody can say they are worried about the ramifications of this lock down without being accused of demanding a haircut or eating in a restaurant? I have never seen one person on this thread mention those things. They are worried about their livelihoods, their children's educations, paying their bills, rent, mortgage, etc. They worry for their mental health, not being able to see elderly family members who may not have much longer to live, not because of COVID but because they are in their 90s.
NOBODY has said they want life to go back to what it was like in February. We know that is not possible. But good Lord, we have to start somewhere.

I totally get that. But a family outing to Home Depot isn’t solving any of these issues. Yes, maybe it makes us feel “normal”, but donning a mask and going to the store is anything but normal for an elementary school kid.
However it does potentially expose our children unnecessarily, along with exposing other shoppers and employees to something we may be carrying. I try to look at the greater good.

Obnoxious much? I don't give a f#@k about a haircut but I do care that life has all but stopped and people are suffering emotionally, mentally and financially.
I've gone along with everything, I've been home going on 10 weeks, wear a mask and follow all social distancing rules. But the fact is, none of this is sustainable. We cannot stay locked in our homes forever, at this point it's essential that we figure out how to get back to life because this virus isn't going anywhere. But people need their paychecks, kids need to be in school and the economy needs to flow. These are facts.
I will do everything to protect my kids and family which is why I've been compliant but this quarantine needs an end date. Society cannot stop indefinitely, if you think it can you're extremely naive. There will be a point of no return here and as scary as the virus seems, life cannot be shuttered indefinitely.

Yes, stores can opened but you usually don’t NEED to bring your entire family (and yes I know there are exceptions like single parents, spouses who work opposite schedules, etc).
It's not a matter of NEED, it's a matter of at some point we HAVE to be allowed to live our lives like NORMAL and that includes bringing our children places if we so desire. I have ZERO intention of continuing to do everything separate from my family, we like to go out together and shop and eat and LIVE. I am sick of living like this. We are going on NINE weeks, it's enough at this point.

Exactly. We are EXISTING, not LIVING. It's so freaking depressing.
The reality is, we are far from a vaccine if they even ever find one and there is no definitive treatment so in the meantime, we NEED to learn to live our lives as normally as possible while dealing with this virus because the virus isn't going anywhere. I think COVID is going to become part of the fabric of our society and who knows, maybe over time with more people being exposed its severity becomes less, but in the meantime we CANNOT stay home forever and live in fear.
I want my damn life back now. And NOT a life where I cannot go into stores with my family, or where I cannot eat a meal out, or where I have to wear a mask everywhere I go or where my kids don't go to school and interact with friends. That is INSANITY. I want a regular, normal life, I am sick of just existing. What we are doing now is NOT sustainable on ANY level. Not the social distancing, not the masks, not the lack of gatherings, not any of it. NINE WEEKS.............it's time to get back to functioning.
I get what you are saying and I want those same things. However, people are dying and this new virus in children is scary. I definitely think more things should open up, but I don't think it should be a free for all just yet.
I get it, I do. But people die from countless different things and a host of other viruses too. What I struggle with is if not now, when? What will be different in a month? Three months? A year? The economy and more importantly people's livelihoods cannot take much longer. Having no job and no income stream is NO JOKE. While we are trying to mitigate the effects of the virus we are at the same time creating a entire other bunch of monumental problems from mental health to economic hardships to educational shortcomings. It just has to end.
At the end of the say, this was NEVER about stopping the virus or even lessening the number of cases, it was about slowing the progression as to not overwhelm the hospitals and we accomplished that. With a roughly 98% survival and recovery rate, there is simply no reason to continue like this. Life needs to resume ASAP at this point.
ETA - I don't think it should be a free for all but they need to STOP adding time to the sheltering in place. By end of next week it'll be 10 weeks. We need an END date to all of this, it cannot be open ended anymore. People want to get back to work and living.

I've gone along with everything, I've been home going on 10 weeks, wear a mask and follow all social distancing rules. But the fact is, none of this is sustainable. We cannot stay locked in our homes forever, at this point it's essential that we figure out how to get back to life because this virus isn't going anywhere. But people need their paychecks, kids need to be in school and the economy needs to flow. These are facts.
I will do everything to protect my kids and family which is why I've been compliant but this quarantine needs an end date. No, but only because my DS doesn't want to go out at all. He's been outside in the last 6 weeks for only 20 minutes to watch the thunderbirds, and it was because we made him to. I've found out I'm a hermit  I go out once every 10 days or so for no more than 30 minutes, and its because I had to. DS seems to be following my path.
