Re: Frequency of Teacher Communication
I never hear from ds’s 1st grade teacher personally, but at parent teacher conferences she said he was doing fine, and she sends home personalized goal sheets, graded tests, graded homework. I’m guessing I’d only get a note or a call if something bad happened. His K teacher last year was more in touch with parents as far as sending home newsletters, etc. I appreciated it! Different style.

Re: Frequency of Teacher Communication
I have a K, 1st and 2nd grader and there really is not communication unless I email the teachers myself. I only have one conference in December but if it was not for me I would not know what was going on. My 2nd grader goes to resource room, has PT and his teacher has the Class Dojo app which I can message the teacher for anything and she will respond. My daughter gets pulled out for reading and her teacher is big on communication and emails me at least once a day. My kindergartner has the same teacher as my daughter so I know her and I know that if there was any problem she would email me. I see them at school functions and always try and touch base with them at least once a month. I know if I need to have a conference that it can be arranged.

Re: Frequency of Teacher Communication
DS is in 1st grade and all the moms joke that school is like a black hole. We don't hear anything from our kids or the teachers.
Basically, no news is good news. The teacher will for sure contact you if something is wrong. That being said, it's ok to send an email if you have concerns. I just wouldn't expect communication weekly or even monthly.

Frequency of Teacher Communication
We get a weekly newsletter from one of my kid’s teachers, but nothing specific to my kids unless there’s a problem. I’ve reached out a few times over the years (to both teachers and principal) and they’ve always been very responsive.

I wish I didn’t hear from my his teachers, I cringe when I see an email come across from school because I know that means he is acting like a butthole.

Same.. when I see 201 and Leonia, I get heart palpitations and roll my eyes. Suffering from major PTSD over here with this kid.

So glad I'm not alone on this one! Thankfully, I am getting fewer calls this year about my DS. But, if it is after 130, and my phone starts to ring, I get that heart sinking feel. And I'm like, ok what's up, what did he do?

Frequency of Teacher Communication
They are starting a new initiative to better communications. I haven’t heard much other than he’s doing fine from my 2nd graders teacher (and she’s a friend of my DHs)... We’ve gotten little comments home on things we’ve had to sign for my 4th grader - and I’ve seen one of his teachers occasionally outside of school and she says he’s doing well (he’s in a coteach class this year but it seems the special ed teacher is more of the lead).

Re: Frequency of Teacher Communication
Parent teacher conferences and that's it. In my experience, they will reach out if the child is struggling prior to that, but generally no news is good news. I don't ask for updates either.

Frequency of Teacher Communication
I am a 2nd grade teacher, I have 2 children in elementary school, 3rd & 1st. I use the class dojo app, my kids school uses seesaw. Communication in CONSTANT. But, not about the individual child unless there is an issue, KWIM? I typically communicate daily about important notices going home in the folder, a test or project that is coming up, something fun or different we did in class, if a child got hurt in recess or in gym and had to go to the nurse. My kids teachers are the same way. I send home all tests, projects, and homeworks, with a grade. They are to sign and return. Other than that, if I don't reach out to you with a specific concern I have, all is well.

Frequency of Teacher Communication
I get what you are saying but I'm always reminded by friends that teach ms and hs that middle and high school teachers usually teach one subject and get multiple prep periods a day. Elementary teachers have 1 prep a day to plan, copy, grade, communicate, etc.
While we'd love to be able to communicate individually more frequently, it's honestly hard to find the time.
Personally, no news is good news. I use class dojo as a messaging system, have a shutterfly site to share photos, and have a class website on weebly that provides so much for the parents. If they have a question, they know I'll answer it and the lines of communication are completely open. But I have to address issues before I can share progress and the issues, lol, are time consuming too.

My son is also in 3rd grade in a 15:1. His teacher communicates about once a month unless there's an issue. I still have PTSD from the amount of times I heard from his kindergarten teacher, so this amount is fine. In fact, an email with my son's name as the subject came into my inbox the other day and I cringed, and it wound up being a good thing. I'm so used to bad news that it was such a nice surprise.

Frequency of Teacher Communication
I think it really depends on the teacher. I have had teachers that I have had no communication with unless there was a problem. This year, my youngest daughter's teacher emails me almost daily. She is a special situation and he really loves her progress so I think he only does that to me. My oldest is in Junior High and we get no communication unless it is needed. They do update the parent portal though so I see grades and assignments daily. I am that parent though who will reach out periodically to make sure everything is going well and if we need to work on anything. The teachers always respond when I reach out.

Re: Frequency of Teacher Communication
Agree that it depends on the teacher. Last year my DS' teacher was a terrible communicator and this year I love his teacher, she writes me all of the time about how DS is doing. We have a text app that she communicates though.
