I would never ever do this. I just had the worst experience with my doors/windows being replaced. These people installed the wrong door, and then they couldn’t actually get the door to lock because it was the wrong size, then they didn’t seal my bay window correctly. We used Pella, which is supposed to be a top window brand/installer, but these people screwed up my home so bad! This happened mother’s day week and I’m still trying to get my house done.
So after that, I will no longer allow anyone in my home without me supervising 100%.

We use renewal by Anderson and they replaced 12 windows in 2 hours with no issues.
To answer OP I did have contractors at my home. We had a slider put in and a deck built. We have nothing of value, took our iPads to work that day

YES! We also had a bad experience with Pella- I've had the lock on our front door brake 3 times and they are like oh we will rush the service, which means someone will come in 48 to 72 hours. Meanwhile... I can't lock my front door. I would never recommend them to anyone.
But the reason why we don't like leaving contractors is because we are afraid of them making a mistake or doing something. My DH used to be able to work from home and babysit the contractor. He can't do that anymore so we've had to loosen up a bit. Luckily we've found contractors who we trust more and do good work..

We are typically home when we have contractors at the house. My DH can work from home so it isn’t an issue. I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable having someone in my house without us there. With that said, we also have cameras through the house so we could probably let them be there alone.

I am usually home. But the only reason is that I don’t want the cats to get out. One of them got out (thanks to idiot ex-H) and was missing for three days because the door wasn’t closed correctly.
I may leave for an hour to do some shopping, but that’s it. I feel really strongly about being in my home when contractors are here.

We are home when we have workmen in our house . We will schedule vacations or work from home. I don't like to leave people in my house without bring there. I had a "friend" over, who decided that they should look at tax forms on an upstairs desk that had a folder over them. Since that experience, and invasion of privacy, I will not allow anyone in my home unattended. You never know what will happen. Did you read my story with my bathroom remodel and the construction crew guy that made it to ABC7 for burning down a home the day after coming to my house. Yeah, I don't let anyone in without a careful eye on them.
