Pretty sure that at 8 my friends and I were making fake nails out of reinforcements and White Out.

To the OP-- hell to the no! My daughter turns 7 today and she has only ever gotten a salon manicure twice-- and both for special occasions. Forget tips! If they do things like that at that age what is there for them to look forward to when they are older? Besides I agree with the other sentiments that aint no one got time to keep up with an 8 year olds nails!! wTH?

I would not let me girls get acrylic. My 10 year old asks all the time. We don't usually do gel either mostly because of the expense. I did let the 10 year old get gel with her birthday money and her nails grew beautiful to the point people thought they were acrylic but that was only like 2 months worth of manicures.

Not now. But we have a “youngest” and I could see that as being a problem if big sister gets something. I told her that she could not paint her nails... and she managed to get a chair, open the nail polish and then paint BOTH of her hands. At 3!

Never I wouldn't even get them because I don't like the way they look on adults. However I will say my 6 year old has beautiful nails. She drinks a lot of milk thou and I feel like that's why they are so nice.

I am pretty liberal but this is a no. My daughter is 4 and ASKS FOR TIPS obviously I would not allow that and I wont at 8 either. I think for my confirmation at 13 my mom allowed me to get short tips which seems fair to me.

So I found out that for at least one of these girls it's the real deal- not press on.
Her mom posted on facebook how her friend "took her to get her nails done" for her birthday. (Yeah at 8 years old kids are taking other kids to get their nails done- I wonder if they drove their in their Barbie Power Wheels car!  )
Then there is a video of her opening her gifts and you can tell she has NO clue how to work these nails. She is having problems opening things, she is tapping them on everything. It looked so damn ridiculous.
Like when a kid tries to walk in mommy's heels.
But to be honest, this mom has questionable judgment on a lot of things so it doesn't surprise me.

That's a big NOPE. I didn't even do the cheap-o press-ons til I was about 10 and my mom was always pretty chill (let me wear make-up, dye my hair, get my belly button pierced at 16...). She would've snapped them right off my fingers at 8.

Yeah, right after we go shopping for thongs.
I remember I had the Lee press on nails, the color changing ones when I was around that age lol you dipped them in water and they changed colors and designs appeared. They lasted 5 min, fell off and I never wore them again. And never out in public. I don't even like long nails as an adult.

They used to be popular where I grew up in Queens, but absolutely are not a thing in my current neighborhood. I thought it fell out of style, but guess not.
I keep my nails slightly long but natural. Sometimes I will put on a coat of nail polish. Same with my girl (so far...) she had to wait until 5 to get polish and it’s that annoying kid kind that chips off as soon as it dries.

My DD is 11 and she doesn't even get a manicure. There is no way I would let her get acrylic nails, or gel polish, or anything.
