I just need to share - Got some great news from my oncologist today - I have a complete clinical response to the chemo!!! The tumor is undetectable at this point! I will still finish the course of chemo (5 more to go) have the surgery and do radiation in case of any microscopic cells hanging around somewhere.
This is fantastic for me as far as remission and recurrence is concerned. It’s just so great to know that every bad day, horrible side effect and looking and feeling terrible was worth it. I still have a long road ahead, but the end of it is almost in sight and it’s looking good! I appreciate every thought, every prayer. They are working

Dr. said he couldnt really feel my tumor any more either (although he didnt say complete clinical response -- I'm guessing becuase my tumor was fairly large so they cant say for certain without more tests) -- I'm going in for surgery on april 15th (finished chemo on March 8th and have been trying to gain some energy back in preparation for surgery). I'm a bit scared (especially since I'm not sure how I'm goign to keep my kids off me when I come home as my daughter especially likes to snuggle on me) but am hoping there wont be too much pain and it all goes well -- radiation a few weeks after the surgery. I'm hopeful that after all this I will be (and will continue to be) cancer free....I truly hope!!

Thank you. I'm doing ok....surgery was LONG (12 hours - i had what's called DIEP FLAP reconstruction immediately with my bilateral mastectomy) and has been a long recovery. I'm still tired and still have some areas that are healing (surgery was April 15th). My pathology was good, but there was still some cancer left in my breast and in one lymph node (there were more lymph involved initially) when they did the surgery (they took that out obvviously -- but chemo helped to reduce all of it) so my dr was relatively happy.
I start radiation next week. Wish me luck that I dont burn! I'm very fair skinned so I'm quite nervous as some of the burns i've seen are quite significant!

So happy that Brooke is doing well and healing!
I’m also doing well. I had my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 5/21. I had a complete response to chemo - No residual tumor or cancer found! I’m still healing up and my lasting chemo side effects are getting better every day. Getting some peach fuzz growing on my head finally which makes me happy.
I’m starting radiation next week as well. I will have 22 treatments. It’s Monday through Friday - for just over 4 weeks. Nervous about it, afraid of burning, but I have to do what I have to do to keep this beast away. I still have to go to the cancer center every 3 weeks for infusions that will last through the end of the year. Not sure what my oncologist will want me to do after that, there are other medications they give to HER2 patients on an ongoing basis but he said we’d discuss that as we get to the end of this year.
Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers and support throughout this. It really means a lot!
I never thought this would happen to me. Please please please go for your mammograms. Know your body, and if something doesn’t feel right, go get checked. Early detection is a lifesaver!!!!

Hi everyone - just wanted to check in and let you know how I’m doing. Radiation was horrible for me. The treatments themselves weren’t too terrible, other than being very time consuming. The aftermath is awful. I am so burned! I’ve been in to see the doc twice since finishing 2 weeks ago. I am using prescription burn cream and today she gave me a narcotic pain reliever. My sister says I look like an extra from the show Chernobyl. The side effects and recovery from radiation are wayyyyy worse than the surgery was for me. Hoping I am on the upswing soon. It’s so painful and I feel so bad for my girls that I can’t do a lot of fun stuff this summer with them.
I had to have my Mirena IUD removed due to having breast cancer, and I was dreading it since my strings were “lost”. I went yesterday for this and my obgyn was able to grab it on the first try! She says she thought God thinks I’ve suffered enough this year! One quick horrible cramp and it was done. I’m most likely in menopause from chemo so hopefully my period won’t return. I can’t have any hormonal birth control anymore so fingers crossed I won’t need anything.
Thanks again to all of you wonderful ladies for your good thoughts and prayers. It means so much to me and I truly believe they helped! I have some healing to do. I am HER2 positive so I have to have infusions of target therapy every 3 weeks until mid January. Hopefully after that, all of this will be in my rear view. I am proud of myself having gotten through this. You never know how strong you are until you have no other choice!

Thanks for asking! I am doing pretty well! Mostly healed up from radiation, I still have an area that hurts but considering how bad it was, it’s wayyyy better! I am hoping that eventually it will be all better, it’s just very tough to wear any kind of bra - I feel like I’ve tried everything! I have resorted to putting lidocaine cream on before I put the bra on, which helps for a bit. When I get home, the first thing I do is take it off!
Seeing my oncologist tomorrow and will discuss some random aches, pains and itchies I have. I will have my next treatment as well.
I’ve started back to work, part time. I have some energy back which is great. Some days I am so tired, but I force myself to go. Cant wait to be back to myself - I feel like slowly but surely, I’m getting there.

I'm doing ok, I guess. I'm due to go for my next surgery on Monday. originally it was supposed to prophylactic to have my ovaries and tubes out (I'm high risk for ovarian cancer and also my cancer is sensitive to estrogen so its best to have them out). However, when I was first diagnosed, they also saw something 99% sure unrelated to the breast cancer in my small intestine. After another scan 2 weeks ago it was decided that needs to come out as well (it could be another form of cancer) -- so, I'm having both surgeries done on Monday and now I get to cross my fingers that the thing in my small intestine isnt much of anythign and that surgery is enough. Although I'm feeling fairly well (my neck has been killing me -- not sure why) -- my last scan also saw a few spots on my lungs. Oncologist spoke with the radiologist who BELIEVES strongly (apparently) that it is radiation damage (something call radiation pneumonitis), but there is a small risk that it could metastatic disease (report said possibility of either -- I guess they have to cover themslrves) -- so I'll go in for more scans in 2-3 months I guess. My fingers are tightly tightly tightly crossed that its the pneumonitis (of course, lung damage isnt fun either, but its better than the alternative). I generally feel ok but truthfully, this is all taken a toll on my mental health. I wouldnt wish any of this on my worst enemy.
As it is breast cancer awareness month (and although I'm nauseated by the pink right now) -- please please, use this opportunity to get your mammograms. Pay extra for 3d (you wont regret it) if you need to, and be your own advocate.

Thank you so much. Still having some ups and downs, but doing well for the most part. Came up on my 1 year anniversary of my diagnosis on 11/13 and what a year it’s been! Happy to be almost finished with treatment.
