Did you hear about the kidnapping attempt in Mineola this week?
This is absolutely terrifying.
These girls were in their own gated back yard!
You can't even let kids play in your own yard by themselves anymore!
I'm so sick to my stomach about this.

Omg! Those poor kids.
My DD is the same age and she is very frightened of things lately. She has woken up with bad dreams twice this week. I can't imagine the emotional trauma something like this would cause for kids that age.
Omg it's so sad to think about how terrified these little girls must be.

I’m just reading this now. This is just terrifying. I just started letting my 8 year old play out in the yard with her 6 year sister for a few mins unsupervised. I always leave our dogs outside with them because I know they will bark like crazy if someone were to come in but now I feel like I can’t leave them out at all. I hate this world. What a nightmare for those girls. I pray that somehow they catch them. I’m glad they knew to scream and make a scene. I always teach my girls to scream at the top of their lungs, and to bite, kick, scratch.

I dunno.... sounds suspicious... the details. The story itself even. Like there's more to this story than 2 strangers coming into a private home's yard where there are 2 eight year old girls...gated.
Be aware & question everything.
And kudos to the girls knowing how to fight back.

Yes, I also found the story to be very strange. Every time I hear one of these attempted abduction stories I wonder why we don't hear of more missing children. Does it just go unreported? I know it does happen but you'd think if these people were really that hell bent on abducting small kids it wouldn't be THAT difficult. . . Shouldn't it happen more frequently? Would these two guys just give up that easily now?

I honestly thought it was made up also. I hate to even say that! Especially the part where they said both men had the same outfits on. That seems really really strange

I honestly thought it was made up also. I hate to even say that! Especially the part where they said both men had the same outfits on. That seems really really strange
I would think it was a little fishy except one of the girls had to be treated because she was punched in the head a few times.

Perhaps the girls aren't necessarily lying, but that there's more to it than they were just random strangers opening up a closed gate, and that this is an attempted abduction gone wrong.
How do 2 men not think there could be people right inside watching the kids, not hear a metal gate open. Neighbors, broad daylight...conversation, throwing a kid down, and hitting her, then screaming. Then they book? It's as if whoever these men were, they knew a lot more about what was going on to be that confident to go up to these girls in the first place.
Nauseatingly frightening nonetheless.

Well, honestly my first thought was they are covering for someone else with this story. Who knows though.
Pretty ballsy to walk into someone's fenced back yard and beat them up to steal them. People are crazy, but this whole story seems fishy

I don't think I've ever seen a man wear yellow pants before in my life, let alone two of them. I wondered if they were referring to khaki pants too. And then my brain immediately pictured two Best Buy employees.

Did you hear about the kidnapping attempt in Mineola this week?
It was scary, and then a little less scary when I saw the news clip which showed the backyard was actually on a corner and up against sidewalk and the fence was a smaller metal fence... I somehow was picturing a 6ft pvc fence midblock when first heard it. My kids are never allowed to play in front or back yard alone.

I meant if you watch the news video instead of reading the story, I think they were a little different (or I wasn't reading carefully). For example, I was wondering why the girls didn't run into the house and the video said one of them went into the house to get help.

I thought the same thing. We had a child in our neighborhood falsely claim an attempted kidnapping.
This story just doesn't make sense.

We also keep our gates to the backyard locked at all times.
I don't need anyone lurking around in my yard and we have a pool so I don't need kids wandering in there either.

I have to ask my 8 year old later to describe a pair of khaki pants... i wonder if she would call it yellow.
I THINK she would call it brown or tan before yellow though....

This story is very scary. When I first heard it I thought maybe custody related or something. A friend of someone I know commented on Facebook that she actually knows the family and it was strangers.
I don't see why you wouldn't believe it. I hope there is more going into the investigation that we aren't made aware of. With several people having cameras I'm hoping someone in the area might have video. From the description of what they were wearing sounded like some kind of uniform to me.

They also said that the police investigated and found this to be a credible threat. I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't say that unless they truly believed the girls' stories.

I would just hate to be the parents of these girls and have people saying it's a hoax when it's not.
I'd be furious.
And yes, I doubt the police would waste time with a sketch artists, press releases, news conferences etc if they thought it was fake.
