Camps

Hello,

I am looking for some camp recommendations
. I live in South Bellmore for over a year now and last year my son went to Maplewood. It is very pricey and to be honest I wasn't too crazy about it. If all his friends went again then I may cave but I feel like the counselors were all too young and when I went for a visit in the summer there were 800 children running all over and it was completely chaotic. Also my son wasn't a fan of the pool he's a little timid and they would force him to go and wrote me a note he wasn't cooperating when he didn't want to go in. I was very upset because I feel they should have given him another activity to do and not push him. And the bus driver was late everyday and they give you a price list what to tip and when I did tip I got not one thank you! Sorry for my rant lol. TIA

I think camps generally are expensive. Some of the "less expensive" (but still pricey) that I know of are Merrick Woods and South Shore. If you're ok with busing further, there are a bunch in Suffolk, like Driftwood.

As for the swimming, I think it's pretty standard at every camp to have the kids swim. You may want to consider private lessons in the winter to get him more comfortable. My son loves Saf-t-Swim and they got him swimming pretty quickly.

Re: Camps

How old is your kid?
Maybe he’d be interested in a camp that’s specific: basketball camp, Lego camp, STEM camp.
A classmate of DS pieces together a bunch of different interest camps and it cost a bit more than our rec camp... but I may do it this year too.

I'm a big fan of Camps r Us. It's affordable and I get discounts for signing them up early and sibling discounts. They do a lot of activities and trips. I pay one price and trips are included.

They have multiple campuses. I believe there is a Bellmore campus.

My kids go to Camps R Us in Bellmore and they love it. There is no busing other that to field trips, but for an all day camp they are very reasonably priced. They also offer discounts for different employers like NYPD, FDNY and lots of companies. They have a list on their website. You can also choose your days and weeks to suit your schedule.

A co worker of mine sent her kids to Twin Oaks, she also worked there...I think as recently as last summer.

Twin Oaks is great, but it's very expensive. Coleman, too.
