Ancestry tests

Anyone did one that they love or gave accurate info? Dh and I want to order one. A couple of family members just did ancestry so I wasn’t sure if I should do that one or another one.

I did Ancestry as did 8 other family members and 2 friends. We were all happy with it.

Re: Ancestry tests

I was very happy with Ancestry. It matched up enough with what I've always been told that I felt it was accurate, but it also provided some new information. It also connected me with a second cousin I had never met! We met each other recently and are friends on Facebook.

we did family tree DNA and connected with relatives in Ireland which was cool. They had pics of my grandmother and her parents. They're my mom's/aunt's/uncle's 2nd cousins. THey are planning to take a trip to visit now!

However, I have heard ancestry has a larger database and can connect you to more relatives. We bought an ancestry kit for my in laws

I did 23andMe and was very happy with it. The results were pretty much exactly what I expected.

I just did 23 and me- both of my parents use this company and I figured I would as well. My father was able to make a lot of connections- my aunt used the ancestry kit and her results were nearly identical to my dad’s so they both provide similar results.

Re: Ancestry tests

I've done ancestry and 23&me. My dad was adopted and I had no idea what my background really was. My dad believed he was 100% Italian. Turns out I'm barely Italian. It really was fun to find out my heritiage is. I've also found a lot of my dads biological family and I've seen pictures of them which is so interesting and strange.

Ancestry has the largest database so I had a lot more 1st and 2nd cousin matches on ancestry. If you are looking to find relatives than do ancestry if you just want to find out your hertiage than you can do any of the big ones. You can also upload your raw data to gedmatch and and ftdna as well..

I'm very interested in how Ancestry & 23 compared. Where the results similar? I figured if one day I have extra money I would like to try a second test just to compare.

Re: Ancestry tests

I did Ancestry.com. The results were very interesting, and very different than what I was led to believe growing up.
I have zero interest in finding any relatives, though. I just wanted to learn my genetic background.

I'd love to do one of these kits, but I'm hesitant to because of concerns as to what is done with DNA once they make matches or discover your background.

Does anyone know of their policies?

Re: Ancestry tests

Dh, myself and DS did them for DH's birthday with ancestry.com

My maternal aunt is on ancestry, some of DH's family is on there so they connect you to other relatives that have done the test and are in the system. We were happy with the process. it arrived faster than anticipated.

the results for my background were very similar. Ancestry does give you a little more direct locations than 23&me. The reason I did both is because 23&me will allow you to take your raw dna and upload it to other sites. Since my goal was to find more dna matches I did 23&me and I did ancestry because its the largest database.
