Has anyone gone down to the Nassau County tax office to pay their taxes? I was just wondering when would be a good time of the day to go....

Thanks!

ETA: I would have to go to the office in Hempstead.

I no longer live on LI, but for my town assessor it was busy apparently all this week. I went at 12:15 and there was no line, but the phone did not stop ringing. They said his morning was insane with a line out the door.

DH is there now. 300 people in front of him when he got their and a 2plus hour wait. Everyone is trying to pay their taxes early. He is in Massapequa. They said the line in Oyster bay was shorter.

Re: Nassau County Tax Office

Town of Hempstead has extended hrs (-6pm) and we were there today to pre-pay oir taxes. We had a 45 min wait when we arrived at 4:30pm. I would get there as early as possible...If the line is still long at 6pm, the guards will just shut the doors and tellers may only take whoever is last in the line by 5:30 or so..

Are you just prepaying the second half of 2017/2018 school tax? Or do you pay something more than that?

We escrow w BFCU so first half of both school and general(property)taxes were paid so we paid second half of school taxes and first half for 2018 general. You have to check which Town you are in for the due dates and for exact 2018 amounts. ..most run June 30, 2017- July 1, 2018... school taxes usually due April 1st and Nov 1st (I think). Depends on your school district.

My brother went down a little after 8 this morning....he had to stand outside for 30 minutes and then was taken in....probably took about 1 1/2 hours. He said everyone was in good spirits though!

No idea. Website clearly says just mail it before the 31st. Why waste time. The check wouldn’t cash until 2018 anyway. Just send it certified and your certified receipt is proof you sent it in 2017, at least as far as the irs is concerned.

Because some Towns havent yet released the 2018 tax bill so you wont know how much the check should be made out for until they tell you. In Town of Hempstead, you must appear in person to pre-pay. Other towns like Oyster Bay and N. Hempstead, you can do it online.

If I click your link and then click the link they give, another page pops up saying you can look the taxes up and mail them. No need for a visit.

We needed a receipt to send to our mortgage company so they will adjust our escrow. Also it wasn’t clear that the town would know what your mailed check was for since no one has the bill yet to send the stub in with the check.

The TOB page that has all of the amounts for every resident also has the bill number. A check with a paper that says the bill number plus section/block/lot numbers should be sufficient.

Town of oyster bay was only allowing school taxes to be paid online and you either had to go or check online for your amount for general taxes
