Braces vs invisaline

I have a large gap in my teeth that I'm self conscious about (gotten bigger over time bc stress has caused me to tongue thrust while I sleep). I have a mouth guard to sleep in so it doesn't get worse, but I'm thinking about getting it fixed.

I like the idea of invisaline more than braces but I've never had either (not even as a kid). What are your thoughts about either?

I'd talk to an orthodontist. Invisalign doesn't fix everything. See what they recommend!

I would go with Invisilign, it looks better for adults.
I also have tongue thrust, I did Smile care Club to close my gap and I now I sleep with a retainer because of the tongue thrusting. if you work with an orthodonstist, they can train your tongue to not push against your teeth.

Re: Braces vs invisaline

I talked to my orthodontist about both and did braces. It was for a short period of time, plus they were also the bottom teeth.
Invisaline takes longer and is more expensive. Plus you have to take out to eat.
I had braces as a teenager. My bottom teeth shifted since I have a crowded mouth and my wisdom teeth never came out pushing my bottom teeth to move.
I wore braces for about 9 - 10 months and now wear a retainer (when I remember). LOL
I try and wear it at night though.

Talk to an orthontist about both. I have a friend who got invisaline and wasn't that happy it took much longer

Agreed! I now have permanent retainers since I had braces 3 times between 14 and 22

Is the gap something that can be fixed with bonding?
Cheaper and easier

I know a few people that started with invisaline, but hated them so much and requested regular braces instead. I heard that they were very uncomfortable and invisaline gave them extreme dry mouth.

I had to look up bonding - if I'm reading it correctly - it wouldn't work for me bc it's a pretty big gap. Also bc of the tongue thrust, I now have a small gap on my bottom teeth in the same place so when I smile it looks like a bigger gap than normal. I've always had a gap, but not as big as it is now.

I have a dental cleaning in Jan and I'll see if they have a recommendation for an orthodontist.

Re: Braces vs invisaline

you need to be a candidate for invisialign. I first had braces put in in 2002 in my 20's. My teeth were bucked, my jaw was out of whack and had bad TMJ, crowded mouth. I wasnt a candidate for it back then and had to go traditional route b/c of the work that needed to be done. (took 3 years of treatment)

fast forward to 2009 my bonded retainer on the bottom broke and i never got it replaced and a tooth shifted back. took a while, but by last year it looked bad so I had to get it fixed.

Invisalign was $4k just for the bottom row. Metal was 3K. and with invisalign you need to wear it 22 hrs a day, removed for eating and drinking. Honestly, that was a pain in the ass to me, so I just did the metal braces again. Just as effective and 1K less money. this time was less than a year wearing them.

I havea bonded retainer again on the back, and an invisalign type aligner to wear at night over it.

Braces vs invisaline

I am 44 and just got braces. I have ceramics up top and metal bottom. First few weeks were an adjustment.

I will tell you that from time to time they are a pain. It is just weird. But I am hoping they fix my grinding.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate.

22 hours a day? So you have to sleep with it in, I assume?

My sister has invisalign. You do have to wear them 22 hours a day. It cuts down on your snacking, because you have to take them out to eat.
