Girl Scout meeting location suggestions

My daughter is in a very active Brownie troop. They meet weekly on Mondays from 6-7ish. They can’t use the church they’ve been using for the past few years any longer.

Does anyone have any specific suggestions? We are in the Bay Shore/Brightwaters area. They are very respectful and always leave the place cleaner than I?t was. It’s a larger troop, 18 girls and 3 leaders.

They are trying for the FH but haven’t had luck in the past even scheduling a tour.

Thank you!

Almost all of our girl scout and boy scout troops meet at the school. It doesn't matter the time (as long as school isn't in session).

We put ina building usage request with the school and hold our meetings there. We used to do the Middle school from 4:30-5:30 but finally this year we scored the Elementary School right after dismissal.

Re: Girl Scout meeting location suggestions

I agree about the school. My Boy Scout Troop, and a couple of the other local Boy Scout and Cub Scout groups also use various schools in the area. I'm pretty sure at least on GS Troop uses the elementary school near by.

If you have a day in mind (like keeping the Monday schedule), try for the closest school first, then you can always expand to the other elementary, middle, and high schools to find a room.

Also ask about other resources in the school. If your district has an indoor pool, ask about using that. If you want the gym for certain activities, ask about that as well. They may say no, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I would contact the school district and see if there is any availability to use a cafeteria. That that many girls a classroom may feel too small. I am a leader in Port Jefferson Station and we have 13 girls and the classroom we use feels just right.

My dd just joined a troup, and they meet at the school. When I was a kid, my troup met at the troup leaders house. Obviously that s not ideal for the leader.

DD's GS troop meets at the leader's house, but they don't have 21 people!

In my town, most troops use the school, but at least one troop uses our local Elks lodge. Our library also has a community room, which we used when our troop was in kindergarten and we could not get space at the school. We have multiple churches too. I don't know your area but maybe similar options are available.

When I was a Girl Scout we would meet at St Patrick's School (not the church). It was in the basement, either the cafeteria or the art room.

Thank you for the responses. I should have added they were trying not to use the school, mainly because they still meet when school is closed.

Some Panera's have free meeting space. The library is another good suggestion.
