Now that Halloween has passed!

What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving? Better yet, what is everyone EATING for Thanksgiving?! Does anyone make anything non-traditional? What's your fave? I love stuffing and mashed potatoes drowned in gravy... and tons of LEFTOVERS!!! I can eat Thanksgiving carbs until I have to be rolled away from the table. I'm super stoked for the annual Thanksgiving spread!

Bring on the turkey! Bring on the stuffing! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Is it too early? Lol

I do the traditional turkey, stuffing. But also have grilled shrimp, spanakopita, sometimes fried calamari, lasagna... Whatever looks good the morning of is what I buy to make.

Re: Now that Halloween has passed!

We go out to dinner every year.
Its a new tradition.
I LOVE it.
We do a sit down meal- I hate buffets.
4 courses- you can get anything you want but I always chose the Turkey dinner because it's the one day of the year I actually eat a full Turkey dinner.
It's so delicious and so civilized!
I can't wait

my new tradition is so UN-civilized.
SO's family goes camping for the week. they used to have hotdogs and burgers... since i've joined the festivities, there is a more civilized meal for thanksgiving.

i pre-make a lot of items and bring them for thanksgiving.

this year, i'll be making:
* turkey
* stuffing
* cranberry sauce
* campfire baked potatoes

the rest... i'll decide as i get closer to the day.

when i used to host, back in NJ, i would make a full traditional spread:
turkey
stuffing
pioneer woman's mashed potatoes
gravy
string beans
glazed carrots
sweet potatoes
pumpkin pie
apple pie

mmm, now i'm hungry

Re: Now that Halloween has passed!

We do the usual traditional stuff:

Turkey & Gravy
Stuffing
Sweet Potato Casserole
Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Corn Pudding
Mac & Cheese
Salad

Only thing we do differently is probably apps - we do a full antipasto (We're Italian - no celebration can be without it)

I usually try to make one new thing every year. This year I'm going to try to make my SILs Spinach Pie to add to the apps

Dessert I'm making a basic chocolate pudding pie in graham cracker crust
My MIL is making an apple Crisp
and our cousin usually brings something delicious

Re: Now that Halloween has passed!

Hosting Thanksgiving here which isn’t really my ideal plan but it beats sitting in traffic to NJ, so I’ll take it!

This is my 19th year hosting thanksgiving.

My menu has varied over the years but in general

Spinach, craisin, cheese, cucumber salad
Pumpkin muffin
Brie in philo with cranberry
Cranberry jelly from a can
Apple sauce from jar
Steamed broccoli
Turkey
Brisket
Gravy
Mushrooms
Potatoes
Sweet potatoes
Brussel spouts some years too.

Pumpkin pie
Apple pie
Pecan pie (from the store)

All else is made from scratch

Some years I have made soup too, but I've eliminated it from the menu.

Re: Now that Halloween has passed!

There is no Thanksgiving here, but I usually do some sort of turkey dish (full turkeys are hard to find here). I’m excited to make it as authentic as I can for my boyfriend, as he’s never had a Thanksgiving.

I’m making:

Turkey breast with a fennel stuffing
Mashed potatoes with gravy
Stuffed mushrooms

Dessert:
I’ll probably make a pumpkin pie just so he can try it, but I don't really like pumpkin pie.

I know it’s a small menu, but whatever.

I’m hosting this year and our whole house is finally done with remodeled so I’m thrilled to do it.

My mom makes the most amazing stuffing I’ve tried but it’s not as good as hers so she will be stuffing the birds (we always make two as large as we can find turkeys) and I’m going to do all the trimmings
Mashed potatoes
Sweet potato casserole
Green beans
Carrots
Broccoli and cheddar
Cranberry
Yummy dinner rolls

We are doing that this year. We have a sick family member that can't be in the car for long so we are going to a restaurant near their house. We are all looking forward to it actually - its a nice change of pace and no one has to break their back cooking for days.

Re: Now that Halloween has passed!

We are doing pajama thanksgiving again! We did it for the first time last year where we bought new pajamas, I cooked and we hung around the house. This year my sister, nieces and DHs brother will join us. Lol

I make all the traditional Thanksgiving sides but will also make the Hispanics sides such as rice with pidegeon peas, pernil and add a baked ziti/lasagna.

Every year we go on vacation to Atlantic City. It eliminates the fight over whose side to go to. I don't like turkey so we go to Carmine's and have a delicious Italian dinner. We have comped rooms for Tropicana and we enjoy the boardwalk, aquarium, arcades and pools. This is our 5th year going and our son loves it and so do we.
