Nanny salary?

What is typical on LI? Are they normally paid hourly or weekly?

It would be 7:30-5:00 5 days a week for one toddler.

Nanny salary?

I would probably pay about $12 an hour or just make it an even $550-600 weekly. I pay $20 an hour for infant twins. She only cares for them and it's 2 hours 2-3 days weekly. It depends if she is doing other stuff like making lunch, doing laundry. My twins get 1 bottle when she's here and it's already made.

Re: Nanny salary?

Our nanny salary is based upon an hourly rate, but with that said if I let her go home early I don't dock her pay or if she stays a little late here and there I do not pay her extra unless she is staying a couple of hours late or something then I will pay extra

Nanny salary?

Thanks. No laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. She would need to heat up DD's (already prepared) food if need be. She would be able to run errands for herself with DD in tow (we would get a car seat for her car). I would provide breakfast/lunch and snacks for her.

She would need to take DD out to do things (library, park, whatever classes I could afford after paying her). We would give paid vacation and sick time.

Depends on your luck and neighborhood. I found that most nannies for full time wanted $17-20 an hour at a minimum. In Queens, a former Au pair told me going rate is really $15-17.

Honestly, I found happiness of babysitter really correlates with personality match and less so with cash.

I think you can find a babysitter for 5-600 a week salary. Might not be a career "nanny" but just someone who is either retired or had grown children who no longer need them

Re: Nanny salary?

You may be able to find a less experienced or younger nanny for $550-600/week. But when we were looking for a nanny in 2013, most wanted at least $15-20/hr. That would be equivalent to $750-1,000/week. It adds up quickly.

What worked for us was paying a weekly salary to our nanny, but anything outside of standard hours (7am-6pm) we paid her per hour. So if we got home at 6:30pm or wanted a date night, she made $12-15/hr, always rounding up.

Re: Nanny salary?

You're probably looking at about $600/week.

It definitely depends on where you live.....my nanny is part time but when she is increased to five days she wants salary and paid time off......this is common in the city....not sure about long island. Good luck!

Re: Nanny salary?

Have had the same nanny for nearly six years now. Our arrangement is that she gets paid a weekly salary - and generally works 7am - 4:30pm....but stays late or comes early when necessary - but she doesn't get paid more or less in relation to her hours worked.

I pay her for 52 weeks a year - - and we do our best to always time our vacations together. (She ends up with a decent amount of time off!).

It's obviously worked for us. She used to work way more hours when my husband was around less - so it's better now that we've settled on a more predictable schedule.

(I should add - she wasn't hired to do anything beyond child care - but willingly started doing everything around the house. All laundry, cooking for the kids, cleaning of the kids' rooms and main living spaces. I'd be lost without her.)

IMO I think it depends on a lot of stuff.

Is she being paid on the books if not then that should 100% be a consideration. I assume she is coming to you. Is she bringing her kids? Is she just watching the kids or doing anything around the house?

For a newborn I would pay more than I would an older child. In a daycare its about 325-350 for a newborn a week so I would probably base it off of that but give more if its one on one time and for the convenience of being at your house. Off the books I probably wouldn't pay anymore than $400-500 and on the books probably around $600 would be my max though I would never personally think its worth paying someone that much for one child who just watched my kid if they were cleaning the house and stuff like that i wouldn't mind.
