1 cm and contractions? Baby weight? Help!

Hey all. This pregnancy is driving me nuts.
4 weeks ago they were predicting induction due to early preeclampsia signs. Since I stopped work, blood pressure is great and protein is better.
Now I am 36 weeks, my appt today began with a discussion about how things have surely turned around and now the baby is 7 1/2 lbs and they are predicting if I go till end will be 10 lbs!
Then I was monitored and they found out I'm contracting quite a bit and then found I'm dilated 1 cm!
Soooo back to maybe having the baby sooner than later.

Anyone dilate slightly with contractions? How long until you went into real labor?

What about this baby weight? Do you think the dr can accurately predict the weight?

I think they have no clue to be honest. My first baby I was 3 cm dilated by 37 weeks, lots of so called contractions and went into labor naturally at 41 weeks. They predicted 9 + pound baby and he was 7 lb 11 oz. With my second I declined any sort of " cervicl checks". Went into labor again at exactly 41 weeks and had an 8 # 3 oz baby. Most of the time they really have no idea when labor will start. Cervical dilation doesn't mean anything unless the baby is crowning haha. As my midwife says...we know you were in true active labor when the baby came out Chat Icon Obviously if you need to be induced because of pre-e that is a different story.

Thank you so much for your response. That is crazy that they predicted 9+ and baby was 7.11! just waiting it out but obviously scared in getting close to the 10 lb baby!

1 cm and contractions? Baby weight? Help!

At 36 weeks I was told if I went to my due date DS would be 10+ we'll I had him on his due date and was 8.2. I am convinced those weight estimates are a crock.

Good Luck!

Growth sonos can be off by 1-2 lbs in either direction. I'd take the estimate with a grain of salt. You can also be dilated for weeks before going into labor especially at 1 cm. There's really no way to predict when things will progress. Good luck!

Re: 1 cm and contractions? Baby weight? Help!

My estimate was pretty dead on. They were thinking 9-10 lbs if I made it to 40 weeks during my 36 week appointment and DS was a little over a week early and was 8 lbs 12 oz but everyone is different and they seem to be wrong more often than not. Because he was so big they were monitoring my closely. During that time they told me I was having contractions. I had no idea! My belly felt so tight and my back is bad so I didn't realize it. They showed me during the dental heart rate monitoring. You can walk around 1-3 cm dialated for weeks. You could go tomorrow or you can go in a few weeks. If you don't feel right, you can always go up to Labor and Delivery. Good luck!

Not sure about the dilation because I was not even a finger tip dilated until the day I had her.
But the weight thing is always wrong . They should actually stop pretending they can predict it because they cant

I was dilated and apparently contracting for like 2/3 weeks before I was induced... past my due date. I also wouldn't take any heed of the weight prediction. They told me DD was almost 8 lbs at 37 weeks. She was born 40w3d and came out a 6lb8oz peanut!

I agree that they don't really know when you will go into labor and I would also take the growth sonos with a grain of salt. At my 38 week appointment they did a cervix check and said my cervix was high and completely closed and said at my next appointment they will discuss induction if I haven't progressed, well my water broke that night.

I agree with the others, the estimates can be way off. I was induce at 39+1 for high BP. At that point I had been 3cm dilated for 1-2 weeks already. They kept telling me the baby was going to be 9 pounds. He was a 6lb 14 oz peanut. He was 22 inches though so I think his length really threw them off! Don't let it make you too crazy. Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

The estimates are always off. It's like a waste of breath. They always tell everyone they are going to have these huge babies and they need a c section, and they end up with average sized babies. But as far as the dilation, you can be 1 cm dilated and even contracting for a while without going into labor. I was monitored once I hit my due date, and I was always contracting, I was effaced slightly, the baby was low, the whole thing.. still was induced. I think it's all a crap shoot! But try not to focus on it (easier said than done) and good luck!

Sometimes I wonder if it's their way to push C sections.
Just a thought......

weight estimates are always off and you can walk around 3cm dilated forever.

I had contractions for the last tri of my pregnancy never amounted to much. They were small and the only reason I knew is cause I wsa getting NST weekly

I had my 36 wk appt yesterday. I am 1 cm dilated but the dr said that basically means nothing. My best friend had a baby a couple months ago (her second) and she told me that she was 1 cm dilated for a few weeks.

Is this your first? You could be 1cm dilated for well over a month. If the contractions come and go, then it's prob just very early labor, again, could easily last a month. It's all a guessing came at that point.

I was 2cm at 24 weeks, 4cm at 30 weeks, had the baby at 39 weeks. There's no method to the madness, haha.

As far as the weight, the were way over for my first, and right on for my second.

As others have said you can contract at 1cm for weeks or deliver shortly after it's unpredictable. Ultrasound wise on my last one they were accurate almost to the oz with my first they were off by almost 2 lbs. My friend just delivered and they predicted at 36 weeks that the baby was almost 7lbs already and would be really big. She delivered at 40 weeks and baby was a little over 7 lbs so obviously not accurate. GL!
