one more party question... this time wording on invite
is there a way to let your guests know that the dress code is not a suggestion and that rsvp is vital because the event is catered?
it might be a party at home, this will not be a "back yard" party.
i want to be "proper," but there is a group of people on the guest list who just never get it... life is more than flip flops, jeans, and a dirty t-shirt. but these same people just cannot be excluded from the guest list.
thanks in advance for any wording assistance on this
oh, first world problems of putting a party together lol

I am not sure how to word the firm RSVP on your invite because I find that no matter how you say it, you will still have people who don't reply when they need to. You could always just do regrets only by a certain date? Either way, I have found it hard to get people to still get back to you.. it is always a hard balance. But, I would say since you're getting it catered, to follow-up with those that don't RSVP and say if I don't hear from you by X date, I am assuming you aren't coming.
Also, for the attire, I would say maybe something like dressy casual? Or No jeans and t-shirts? Something like that?

I've seen "RSVP Required", but that is usually on corporate things, I don't know if that is too strict sounding coming from a friend/family member.
for dress code, you could say dressy casual or festive attire.

As for the dress code - you can put something like "festive party attire only" or " dress to impress" or whatever, but that doesn't mean everyone will comply. Some people will always just wear whatever they want and there's not much you can do about it. Would you turn them away if they don't comply with the dress code? If not, just try to remember that there are just some things you can't control and that will not, in the long run, have any impact on how great the party will be

Totally agree with this. I mean, I get that you want it to be a fancier event, but you did still say you were having it in a backyard. So is it really going to take away from the party if people show up under-dressed? It'll be fine.
As for the RSVP, all you can do is hound people for their response closer to the date. I mean people don't RSVP for weddings where it's clear things are catered and every seat is planned!
