Isnt it too early?!

DD is 10 months old. She's an extremely active child -- does not sit still at all, and especially now that she is pulling up on things and pulling herself along the table, couch etc in preparation for walking. While her energy is great, it's obviously exhausting....but on top of that, she seems to be very opinionated and throwing tantrums already! Throws her body (i.e. kicks her feet or thrusts her body), or goes stiff when she doesnt want to go into her high chair, complains loudly when she doesnt get her way -- isnt it WAY too soon for temper tantrums? I'm just starting to get concerned....I'm trying not to give in to her because I dont want to set the pace....but i mean she has blowouts....I thought we had another year before that happened! lol. Any thoughts? Too soon? normal? the makings of a genius lol? Any way to curb such behavior on such a young child?

It's normal. They are more mobile now, etc and they get frustrated easily- they can't speak yet so this is how they express their frustrations.

Tantrums don't start at 2. They start way before and they go on WAY past 2.

No advice on how to curb them, because it's hard to reason with a child who is that age. I just kind of dealt with it..... and then drank a lot later on.

Nope. Sounds about right. That's when the screaming and tipping head first forward onto the ground and flopping onto his back started. And at that age there is not much you can do because they don't really understand discipline. We just try to ignore it when he does it but it is great fun to listen to...

Do you happen to have older kids? I think he gets frustrated not being able to do everything they can do and gets pissed he is a baby Chat Icon

Lol! I don't remember when tantrums start. DD is very difficult at 1 yr 4 mo. I seem to remember all of them were and we stopped eating out for a half a year.

Both of mine had tantrums before that age lol. My DS more so, and he sounds similar to your DD. Very normal and just keep doing what you're doing and don't cave. It will make it easier in the long run. Consistency is so important. GL!

THanks, all! Ugh! I really thought we had a few more months at least of cuteness before the tantrums....sigh. She's become quite adept at using her entire body for the trantrum too. lol. Its very hard to not want to give in but I do know that this is going to set the tone, so I guess it's time for DH and I to stay strong, lol. No older siblings involved here....just a very very opinionated 10 month old following her own little path.

Nope. My ds was active and strong willed from the moment he came out. And truthfully he was crazy active in my belly. I joke that he kicked his way out 3 weeks early. I am super strict with him because otherwise it would be hell.
