The flu!!
Ugh! As if being hit with fever viruses, and the stomach bug TWICE in the past month wasn't enough, we've now been hit with the flu. DD got it on Monday, was diagnosed on Tuesday and is still sick. 5am this morning my youngest DS came down with the fever. The boy will NOT take medicine. Tamiflu costs us $140. I got it for DD but I know my youngest won't take it so I am not even going to bother giving it to him. I am going to have to get him suppositories for the fever. My oldest DS has been coughing, sniffling and sweating like he's fighting a fever but hasn't had the fever yet. What can DH and I do to stay healthy? I am exhausted (probably from being up all night the last few nights) and I am slightly achy, which can also be from exhaustion....or it could be in my head since I'm freaking out about getting the flu. I already had it earlier this year I really don't want it again and I really don't have the money to go to the dr and get tamiflu for all of us. Is there anything we can do to try and stay healthy? We are taking airborne. Anything else??

Re: The flu!!
First of all- Tamiflu is a huge waste of money and a scam. Don't even bother with it
Last spring DH got the flu- went to the dr early and got the Tamiflu, started taking it religiously- he was sick as a dog for over a week- the Tamiflu did absolutely nothing. It didn't shorten the duration, it didn't minimize the symptoms. It did NOTHING. It was like throwing money down the toilet.
So I started taking Elderberry syrup as soon as he was diagnosed. I had a feeling it was too late because I am sure he was contagious before I knew but I started it right away.
I did come down with something- probably the flu- didn't go to teh Dr but he had it and DD had it diagnosed so I knew what it was for me. I was better in a few days. My symptoms never got as bad as his. Elderberry is a natural anti viral and it works. Tamiflu is big pharma garbage.
Go get yourself a huge supply of Elderberry syrup. Take it every 4 hours. Religiously. You can give it to kids too

The flu!!
Thanks ladies! The only reason i got the tamiflu for my dd was because when i had the flu last year i feel like it helped me almost immediately. The aches and fever were gone. But it seems to be doing nothing for my daughter :( i texted DH and told him to pick up elderberry syrup in his way home tonight. Is there a certain one for kids, or can they have the same as DH and I? They are 4 and 6.

And for what it's worth, DD got flu last year even though she had the shot. Tested positive for it.
I sometimes think the shot is just as much of a waste as Tamiflu
But I still gave it to her this year just in case

The flu!!
Thanks everyone! They did not get the flu shot. I have the dame feelings about it as Nell but inusually do get it for them every year. However this year, for the past month and a half all of them have been sick and we couldn't schedule it. Usually we get the shot and at least 1 kid will still get the flu.

Re: The flu!!
You can also try Oscillo
We take it whenever we start to have flu like symptoms and it has worked for us if we take it at the very start of symptoms.

We all took this last year when my dad got the flu. I'm the only one that still got it and while i was pretty sick my fever never went higher than 102 and mostly stayed under 101. I feel like I got a slightly watered down version. Hope everyone feels better!!!! It stinks when everyone is sick!

The flu!!
Thanks everyone! So DH stopped at the store and bought these elderberry tablets. You take them at the first sign of flu and cold symptoms. We started taking them even though we have no signs yet. But it's all they had in stock at cvs, so says dh. I am going to get to the natural food store and see if i can pick up the syrup, but these will hopefully do for now!!

That was all I could get as well at the time DH got flu last year. But I noticed they had less elderberry per serving than the syrup. So take those for sure and be religious about it but try to get the syrup ASAP. Good luck!!

I have never had the shot and haven't had the flu, yet! I feel like you, it's a 50/50 chance you take. I have friends who have received the flu shot and still got the flu!

It's less than 50/50...they have no idea the year before when they are formulating next years flu shot what strain flu will actually come that year. It's a total crapshoot. I read a study about a year or two ago that the most effective the flu shot has ever been since they started was like 30% or something really low. I'll have to try to find it again.
