NYC Marathon?

Anyone participate in, or watch the NYC Marathon this weekend?

I don't know anyone personally involved in the marathon, but I think it's great that so many people run to either fundraise, and/or raise awareness of charitable organizations. Chat Icon

NYC Marathon?

I live in LIC and we are the 1/2 way point- every year my friends come over, we have a nice breakfast and spend the day cheering on the runners. We always know a few ppl running and we make signs and hand out water. It's so much fun and I love seeing the runners react when we call out their names (printed on their shirts sometimes) and cheer for them.

I was at Mile 22 cheering on the First Descents runners - it's an organization I am very involved with. Also cheered on some friends that ran, plus saw Nev Schulman and Sean Astin lol!

I worked it - I was one of the stand announcers at the end of the race. It was a long and tiring day, but it was a pretty awesome experience to be the happy helpful face at the end.

My friend's DH ran this weekend to raise money for the NYC Police and Fire Widows and Childrens Benefit Fund. He did a great job!! I give anyone credit for running a marathon, I can't even imagine running for hours and hours. Such dedication and training and so many run for a great cause!!

NYC Marathon?

I ran it in 2014 and always have tons of friends that run it so we always spectate, usually in Brooklyn and then we move to Upper Manhattan. Harder this year to spectate with an infant but we still got a good amount of cheering in! I hope to be running it again next year and worst case, in 2018 after doing 9+1 in 2017!

I was there at Mile 25 to cheer on my cousin. I knew a few other runners as well. It is inspiring to see people of so many different backgrounds/age/gender/athletic ability just root each other on. Standing near the end you can see some people look like they could go another 26 miles and some are really struggling. I watched as strangers cheered and motivated each other to just get them to that next mark. And some clearly it meant taking a few minutes off their time but it didn't matter. It meant helping someone else get to the end.

With all the crap going on in the world and with this country it was nice to see people being humans for a little while.

I live on the upper east side and it is always such a fun festive day. I have run 3x, including last year; dh has run 4x. I always know a few people running and it is so great to spot them on First Ave. There are so many runners and I am always amazed that the NYRR and the city are able to pull off such a huge event. Such a logistical nightmare but they do a great job. I always say that one year I will volunteer.

Congrats! That's awesome! I had a few friends run. I watched on TV. It's so inspiring!

And I was blown away by the professionals. Mary Keitany basically sprinted the whole marathon. She was amazing to watch and what was even more amazing was when she finished. She crossed the finish line and then walked to her family like it was nothing. No huffing and puffing, no sweat, no barfing on the side...incredible!
