If you went away to college...
where did you go? and did you love it? My daughter is a junior and we are just beginning the process of narrowing down some colleges to visit. She definitely wants to go away and is eager for the full college experience.
We've only visited Binghamton and Cortland. Does not have to be a SUNY.

University of Florida in Gainesville. Loved it!

Syracuse. I would never stay home. It gave me independence and I see the differences in me and my DH. He had never lived anywhere but LI.
I moved away for college and moved away after before coming back.

SUNY Cortland. I had a great experience! It is a wonderful small college. Loved the campus and the town!

Maryland. Loved every minute of being there and loved the state so much that I stayed and lived there for 25 years before moving back to NY

If you went away to college...
SUNY Albany. I loved it at the time...was a BIG party school. I think it was since toned down. The downtown area where most students live off campus is a complete dump. The area is crime ridden. Robberies, shootings, you name it. I'd recommend living on campus or uptown. Great business school for a SUNY especially the Accounting program.

If you went away to college...
I went away my freshman year. SUNY Purchase. Hated it. So much so that I transferred.
DH went to Binghamton and LOVED it.

Gettysburg and loved loved loved it!! College is so expensive, but if going away is possible, I think it is important.

I did too, but only for a semester.
Eight days after I left home for the first time was September 11th, 2001. Couple that with my anxiety issues, I wound up transferring to SBU.
I did love commuting though. I was able to work and go to school, and I didn't have to ask my parents for money, which made me feel less independent.

Manhattan College. It's in the northern Bronx, near Van Cortland Park and Yonkers. I lived there. Best of both worlds, to live away at college, but be less than an hour to come home when I needed to (which I hardly ever did, I loved it there!).

SUNY New Paltz. Started out at NYU and as much as I love the city, it didn't have that college campus feel I really wanted. I was really really happy at New Paltz! Great school, great small town. Plus the mountains are gorgeous!

Yes, but I went to college in Canada so that won't help. But I definitely recommend going away to school.
DH went to BU, his brother went to Cornell, and his sister went to Delaware and they all loved their experiences.

I went to SUNY Delhi, while it was still a 2 yr school. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it. I was heart broken to transfer. I then went to New Paltz. I hated the school but loved the area. My brother went to Lafayette College in PA. He had the most amazing experience and made the most amazing friends.
Just a suggestion, I had a wonderful experience studying abroad in London. I don't know if that is an option for your DD, if so make sure the school she picks has a great program. It was without a doubt one of the best experiences I have ever had.

I went to Gettysburg also and loved every minute of it! Going away to school is such a great experience.

I went to Manhattan too! Class of 2003... U?
Had an amazing experience and being extremely close to the city had many advantages in terms of internships etc.
My husband went to Marist and he absolutely loved it there.
