Going to Bermuda for the first time...

What should I check out?

We are taking a cruise that stays in port for 3 days. It's myself, DH, and DC who is 5.

Horseshoe bay beach for sure! We just went in April on a cruise and I have never seen a more beautiful beach! There are a few things to do in the port, food was very expensive. There is a fort/museum right in the port the kids liked. There are caves also, but we wanted to spend our time outside. There is a bar/pirate boat supposedly you can eat and jump off the back to swim. You can swim with the dolphins. I wish we had done two day at horseshoe.

We were in Bermuda twice this summer. We mostly did beach and pool, but the zoo/aquarium is a cute activity. Crystal caves are fun to see, but they are way at the other end of the island from the cruise port. We stayed at the Southamoton Princess, next door to horseshoe bay, and I agree it is magnificent. We also did a fun jet ski tour with our older dcs, but I'm not sure of the age requirement. Also snorkeling. I recommend picking up a kid size snorkel set before you go- the dive shop did not have a set small enough for my 3 and 5yos when we went in June, so I brought our own in August and they had a blast snorkeling in the clear water.

I feel like everyone heads to Horseshoe Bay and while beautiful, I felt like it was way too crowded. If you go one stop further, you'll reach Jacob's Cove which is just as beautiful and a lot less crowded. Right off the ship, within walking distance is Snorkel Park and with a 5 yo, I think that might be enough. I agree with bringing your own snorkel equipment and water shoes.

Calico Jack's is the bar! It's a cool place. Definitely worth checking out. We like Jobson's Cove. You need to bring towels with you because it's not like Horseshoe. No rentals or food! It's a bit past Horseshoe but not crowded. Horseshoe is nice but just too crowded. You can also try Elbow. Elbow can cost more ($100 for two chairs) but worth it.

The taxi situation for us was very chaotic! The island was unprepared for our arrive and it became a nightmare. I became friends with a cab driver and called him directly to pick us up. Worked out great!

Do yourself a favor and get a buss pass- they sell 3 day passes for these cruises. I love Horseshoe Bay and maybe it's just the time of year we go but it's never crowded. I liked the Crystal Caves, too. Pretty cool to see- plus there's the Swizzle Inn directly across the road- good food, drinks, and you can sign the ceiling- the signatures date back to the 1930s! Going to Bermuda for the first time...

I was there for three days too on a cruise.i loved Bermuda and it was my favorite cruise. It felt like we did a lot in Bermuda and got to relax on ship. I even went to the gym twice and went for a walk couple of days.

First day, we took a cab with two other couples and toured the island. The tour was about five and half hours. In the evening we took the ferry to Hamilton. There was a street fair that evening so it was nice to spend couple of hours there. There is a liquer store called Goslings in Hamilton close to where you get off the ferry that had free tastings. Their ginger beer was so good. DH bought some alcohol there. You just pay for it and give them your name. Ship info, and cabin number and the bottles were delivered to our cabin on the last day.

On the second day, we took the ferry and a bus to go to crystal caves. From there took a bus to St. George. Went to the perfume factory, walked around the neighborhood and had lunch at a restaurant by the water. From there, we took a bus to the horseshoe beach. There were two cruise ships docked that day with over 8000 tourists but the beach was not over crowded when we went. On the way back, we stopped by the Calico floating bar which was right in the dockyard at Kings Wharf. It's a cute boat shaped bar where people jump off the boat and there were water sports around it. It waa a long day but we did everything we wanted to do.

On the last day, we decided to stay close to the ship. There is a lot to do around the dockyard..swimming with dolphins, aquarium, snorkeling but the beach is small and it was very crowded. We walked around the stores and souvenirs and rum cake.
