Tubes in Ears

My DS has to have tubes put in his ears. The surgery is scheduled for a week after he turns 1.

Talk to me about your experience with this surgery.

How was your child after surgery? Days after surgery?

Did the tubes fall out on their own? Did they have to be removed?

Did your child have to have the tubes placed back again?

My ds had them put in last summer when he was 1 1/2. We used Dr. Cheng at LIJ who was amazing. The procedure itself took anout 20 mins. It was very hard for me to watch him be put out but I knew he needed me there. When he woke up in recovery he was a mess. Cried hysterically for like 2 hours. Was very out of it from the anesthesia. By the time he got home he was almost back to himself. By that night it eas like nothing ever happened. He has not had even 1 ear infection since. Actually hasn't been sick at all since. His tubes are still in but dr said it looks like one is on the way out. Having the tubes was the best decision. My ds benefited so much. Any other questions just FM me

my son had it done at 15 months. He woke up in recovery very groggy. He might have screamed for a minute when he first woke up but then he was just very tired.

We were out of there quick which I was happy about. The rest of the day he just slept a lot. The following day it was like nothing happened.

They stayed in for a few years. I never saw them come out. We were just told by the ENT when he didn't see them anymore.

My son had it done because he had fluid in his ears that wasn't draining and he couldn't hear on the one side because of it. So we only had to do it once.

I was so worried about my daughter having surgery. Cried for weeks leading up to the surgery. She did so well. The surgery took about 20 mins and my dd was up and running around the hospital about 40 mins after the surgery.

Did the tubes fall out on their own? Did they have to be removed? Fell out on their own. I have no clue where they even went. We never found them.

Did your child have to have the tubes placed back again?[No my daughter did well after tubes until this year she is having a lot of eat infections. We are seeing the ENT again. Her surgery was 4 years ago.

My son was 2 when he got them done. Since them, ZERO ear infections. They are amazing. I suffer from ear infections myself, and his ENT (Dr. Grosso in Plainview) suggested I get them done myself. I had it done last September and I've had a few issues, but nothing crazy. They've worked wonders for my son. Wonders.

My DS had the surgery when he was 2.5. I cried when I had to leave him in the OR but the procedure was done in 15 minutes. He was crying and a little disoriented when we went back to get him, but within an hour he was basically fine. Took him home and he was pretty much his normal self.

One tube fell out about a year later and the other was still partially in there up until a year or so ago (he's 5 now). He did get an ear infection once they were out, but nothing terrible. I think they only put them back in if they start having chronic infections again.

My 2 yr old DS had this done Monday morning. It was 15 mins from the time they brought him back to when they called us to recovery. He slept the anesthesia off for an hour and we took him home. He was his normal self that whole day and since. Today he picked up some new words and has been amazing!

We've had both boys get tubes. One at 11 months and one at 7 months.

My older guy---one fell out when he was 2.5! The other was plucked out at about the same time. Right in the office, no pain whatsoever. Zero infections with tubes in. 4 since they fell out. He's now 3.5. We may be looking at another set of tubes, but are holding off till at least 4 when they may do tonsils and adenoids to.

My little guy still has his in (he's 20 months). They are bulging and look about ready to pop. He would likely need a new set since even with tubes he was getting drainage very frequently, at times painful. So we've been doing the ear drops every other day to hold it at bay. No fluid in his ear with that plan in place.

Surgery literally took 20 min from start to finish, including prep. My boys were home and running around as if nothing happened 2 hours later. Watching them come out of anesthesia is hard. They scream and scream. Until they are really awake and realize it's you holding them. It was hard to watch. But they was worst of it.
