Being that he's a b@stard (mom & dad not married) wouldn't that make him a stark?
Yes, made up of both blood lines - but because of no marriage, don't you take your mothers name?
Bastards don't get a family name- they get a b@stard name depending on the region they were born. I guess depending on which way you look at it he'd be either a Sand or a Snow.
ETA: There's also some speculation that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married in secret, making him a legit Targaryen.
I read somewhere that Lyanna and Rhaegar may have married (thus, she's his 2nd wife). Assuming that is possible in Westoros, then he may be truly be a Targaryan. Being that we only know about it because of Bran's worging, I'm not sure how they would prove it but something tells me that Littlefinger knows.
Yeah I'm sure Westeros doesn't really care that he cheated on and left his first wife for Lyanna.  They're not big on women's rights. They might've just been happy he wasn't marrying a sister/cousin.

Lyanna was in the tower hidden away by Rhaegar. Allegedly he kidnapped and raped her though it's looking more and more like they were lovers or possibly even married in secret. She had been promised to Robert Baratheon, who was very much in love with her, and he was searching for her. I'm assuming they were trying to hide her pregnancy from him. I mean he started a war to win her back, imagine what he would've done if he knew she was pregnant. He might've killed them all- her and the baby included. In fact, that's why Ned claimed Jon Snow as his own- to protect him from Robert and all others who wanted to wipe out the Targaryen line.
So the fact that she was in bed, and bleeding when Ned found her, means that she had just given birth to Jon Snow?

This is why Oberyn Martell was so pissed at the Mountain and volunteered to be Tyrion's champion. He knew the Mountain raped and killed Elia, who was his sister, and killed her children.

Yup! That's why he left those two guys at the Tower of Joy- they were two of his absolute best fighters- I forget their names, just that they called one the "Sword of the Morning". He left them there to protect Lyanna and his unborn child.

Wait a minute, I'm reading about Rhaellan T and it seems that she was Aerys T's sister?? I thought that Cersei and Jaimie were the only siblings that were romantically involved.

Nope, Targaryens wed brother to sister for centuries to keep the bloodline pure. There's some speculation that that's why the Aerys was mad- because he was born of a history of incest.

Yeah, I think this is true. In the book, Tyrion has two different colored eyes- one violet, which is a common Targaryen trait. The timeline works out, Tywin's vicious hatred for Tyrion and his many claims that he's "no son of mine" makes sense.
