We don't have much family in NY, but even if we did we would probably go right home after. We are not over the top party people and keep things very simple.

Re: After pre-k Graduation?

I would do pizza and either a homemade cake or ice cream cake at the house. I know some are saying not make a big deal or anything but I think its nice to celebrate special days. Even with something small like Pre-k graduating. They grow up so fast and I feel like we should celebrate these important moments.

Re: After pre-k Graduation?

We weren't allowed to bring a boatload of people to ours. The room was very small. I just brought my parents. They took us out to lunch afterwards, there was a restaurant right next door to our Pre K.
They paid

Honestly, I wouldn't do a single thing for a PreK graduation except maybe go have lunch with DH and the kids or take them for ice cream.

After pre-k Graduation?

Just my mom and MIL came for DS's Pre-K graduation. We just went to a diner for lunch. Some other kids and their families were there as well by coincidence. After they all ate at their own tables they sat together and played/colored while their families finished up.

I don't think you need a big to-do... just invite the grandparents back to the house for pizza/cake if you want.

I think going out, even to a diner, sounds over the top. All these "graduations" have gotten WAY out of hand.

ITA. After both DC were done with pre-K, we just went home....

After pre-k Graduation?

We went out to dinner with the grandparents and my brother, sis in law and their kids. I thought it was cute to make a "big deal" out of it. I think its a big thing to be done with preschool and be entering K in public school! What we didn't make a big deal out of was her K graduation bc I didnt feel like that was as big of a change then going from preschool to K.

Re: After pre-k Graduation?

DH, DS 1, DS 2 and I got lunch afterwards at a local diner bc we were hungry lol. I did have my family (mom, sis and a few relatives) over that night for a small cake to celebrate.

You should do whatever you want to do, not what "everyone" is doing. I chose to have some close family over and have cake bc I like to celebrate everything.

How is having lunch at a diner over the top? ever?

I'm a bit confused by everyone who is stating, who cares, not a big deal....... seems pretty big for the kids. Will be new "real" school, full day next year, they did complete a program.

I'm not saying that you have to throw a party, but either going to a diner or having immediate family back for sandwiches or pizza seems appropriate.

they did actually accomplish something rather than a birthday which is basically that they just got a year older....

Our son is graduating this year and we most likely will go for lunch. we may or may not have my parents and ILs to lunch.

ITA, my DS has been in his school since he was 2. He is graduating this June and going on to the public school, where he will be till he's 17. It is a big deal! He's been with the same kids in their group of about 18, next year, there will be 7 kindergartens! Many new friends and new teachers, a school bus, a cafeteria, all things he hasn't experienced. It's a big deal to him, and to us. No we're not having a party, but we're not going to downplay it for him either.

ETA: We won't have another graduation till he moves to middle school, and even that is not as big a deal as this bc that is just moving to a different building on the same campus as elementary school.

After pre-k Graduation?

We don't have a pre-k graduation. Only kindergarten. It's at 7pm on a Wednesday. The school is hosting a spaghetti dinner before hand and parents are asked what to bring in. There are only 10 kids in this class so 5 will bring in a side and 5 a dessert. My Mom is coming in to town for it but we also moved OOS so that changes it. We are buying her a cross for her wall and a piece of art work with scripture on it. We will do this for all 3 kids as they "graduate". We let her pick out the cross and artwork and she is very excited! I hope it's something she always remembers.

Re: After pre-k Graduation?

We will go out to get lunch with my parents and if her aunt and uncle can make it they will join us. It's in the morning so not sure yet. She will also get a small gift from us to mark the occasion.
It is a big deal for us. It's the foundation of her education and I want to set a tone about how important education is and that achievements are something to be proud of and celebrated. When my mom taught nursery school they did a whole shin-dig. Caps, gowns, diplomas and a catered reception afterwards. It was awesome and everyone had a nice time. 30 years later people still see her in the grocery store and talk about their ceremony and how fondly they remember it.
What is so wrong about celebrating milestones or special events if that's how you want to address it? If you want to throw a black-tie affair, be my guest! Life is for living, so live it up if you want to.
If you don't want to celebrate something then don't. No one is forcing you too. And if you are so concerned about what others are doing and letting that influence you one way or another, well then I just feel bad for you. Do what makes sense for you and your child.

Re: After pre-k Graduation?

It was a Friday morning so we had to take the day off work. We went to her favorite pizza place with the grandparents. Afterwards, we jumped in the car and headed to Dutch Wonderland for the weekend. Take advantage of the day off.

It's entering Kindergarten & the end of daycare expenses..... hell yeah its a celebration!
