KOHLS - Valley Stream
I can't stop thinking about this and it has me really confused. Could it be possible that she was just a crazy lady who just wanted to hold a stranger's cute baby? Not that I'm saying that isn't weird or scary just maybe she didn't mean any harm? I just can't understand how anyone could expect to successfully kidnap a child like this. She didn't seem to have a weapon from what I'm reading and anyone in their right mind would realize that no mother would happily hand over their child with a simple request.
I'm not trying to say the situation wouldn't have totally scarred me regardless and I would be just as shaken up as the poor woman that this happened to. It just doesn't add up to me. They didn't even have a get away vehicle, just got in a cab? So completely strange. . .

That's what I'm thinking too. Maybe it's how I'm rationalizing it because I don't want to believe it's so scary out there. But I don't understand how an unarmed, middle-40's woman honestly thought she'd take a toddler away from its mother. Just by asking for it. It's not like this was a criminal mastermind plan. I think it was just a crazy (or high?) woman being weird. It must have been TERRIFYING for the baby's mother, but I don't see any reason why I should be afraid to do any holiday shopping this week, kwim?

I can't stop thinking about this too. I'm wondering if they have surveillance of the man who was with her? And if they do, when will they release that picture? I just worry that this woman isn't the only one "working" for him.

I'm sure that was just a disguise. The article said the woman had lots of layers. Her hair probably isn't really even blonde.

Also, Kohl's tends to be crowded this time of year, and restrooms are located in the back of the store. It seems like an odd choice to pull this off.

This is terrifying. Thank god that this mom and her child are both safe. The restrooms at this kohls location are isolated from the rest of the store and a few feet away from an exit that leads directly to the parking lot. I'm so grateful to this mom for sharing her horrible story and hope they catch this awful people soon.

I can't stop thinking about this and I am usually never rattled by news stories.
Maybe it's because it's so close to home. Maybe it's because I think of all the times I'm out with my son and he breaks free, or wanders just out of my view in the library, or hides in a clothing rack...how quickly they can disappear.
All I know is that if this had happened to me I would have killed this person with my bare hands. I can't imagine the sheer terror and panic that the mom must have felt. Not knowing who or what she was dealing with while just trying to change a diaper.

And I tease him about it every single day -- because let me tell you, IMO, that Department doesn't hold a candle to Nassau 
My boyfriend practically needs to get his passport stamped and start declaring duty-free items when he crosses into Nassau 
I did do some asking around with the contacts I have at the NCPD and apparently, they do have footage of the individual and will be releasing it -- then, it is up to the media to hopefully report it!
This is what they have released so far...
I know the investigation is ongoing but they have obtained pics and video so they will be releasing it when they can --- they are always cautious and wait until the right time to release information as not to impede or compromise the investigation in any way.
Be safe everyone -- keep a heads up and stay aware. 
Yay -- one of the outlets reported it and showed the pics...

I think, now, it is just a matter of time until they get her.

Right, but in the story posted by the woman that this allegedly happened to she says they saw video of the woman getting into a taxi with the man. And now she got into her own car and no man is involved? Those are two very different accounts.

Yeah who knows. Could be that they are withholding certain details from the media for a reason.
However, back in the day, the police could withhold details and that was it. Now a days, everyone gets on FB and starts talking about every single detail of a crime so the whole world knows anyway.

No because I doubt she'd show up there again knowing that everyone is on high alert looking for her and her picture is all over the place.
This can happen ANYWHERE. Unless you never go out, you can't avoid danger 100%

I wouldn't avoid this Kohls but I will not use thisbathroom. The bathroom isn't in the main part of the store and there is no security.

I don't usually go there, but I wouldn't purposely avoid it. The likelihood of this woman trying this again at the same store is very slim.

You can't live like that though. Never going to the mall because of isolated incidents like this.
Stuff like this, although very scary and horrifying, is rare.
That would be like never driving again because people die in car accidents daily
What you said stayed with me. What I wrote was more of an exaggeration, although I will be thinking twice about taking my kids with me. The irony is that I was at Roosevelt Field today to do some Christmas shopping. The first time I've been to a mall since having DS almost 4 1/2 mos ago. I actually left about an hour before the incident because I had to pick my daughter up from school. So crazy right considering this post.
