Throwing yourself a party
so both my hubby and I are turning the big "40" 2 weeks apart from each other. Due to his work schedule we can only celebrate them both on one weekend. I want to have a party with our friends to celebrate and make the most of this milestone bday. Since we would be celebrating together, we wouldn't be throwing each other separate parties.
Was thinking of doing a house party at our house- no kids... just us and our friends.Would love to do a bar or restaurant but its just not in the budget...
Do you think the whole idea is tacky, or okay to do?

It's only tacky if you ask people to bring things to make your party happen, or expect gifts (like, tell people what you want). I actually prefer things like this to organized events at a restaurant or bar where everyone is expected to pay his/her own way and contribute for the bday person who picked a $100pp restaurant and ordered 5 $20 drinks...kwim?

I think it's totally fine. I organized my own 30th bday because I knew DH was just not capable of doing it. lol
40 is creeping up and I want to go on a trip. I'm not really interested in having a party. I'll be planning that too.

Sounds fun!! I think it's only tacky if you throw yourself a party and then expect people to pay for any aspect of it. If you're having everyone over to your house to celebrate I think that's fun, not tacky. Happy 40th to you both!

Fantastic idea. There is no difference throwing yourself a party than hosting a party at your house for whatever reason.

A girl I work with is having a party for her husband's 50th (not hers, but still) and they're having a big cocktail party with drinks and just lots of different apps. I thought it seemed like a nice, relaxed way to throw yourself (or your husband, or both) a party.

Absolutely do it! DH and I threw our own 30th b'day together because our birthdays are 10 days apart. It was a great time and everyone had a blast!

thank you all. That's what we're doing then. Just want to have a good time with our friends. And I would NEVER expect anyone to bring anything..just want to celebrate :)
